Sending a shout out to Chris for making me an excellent larval collector for my A.percula fry. I've actually had it for around a month now. It works great once you get the right flow.. No sitting and scooping them out.

Here's my old set up.

ATM I'm co-culturing rotifers and phyto. My density is around 15-30 rots/ml. I haven't had to add rotifers since I had such a high density from the beginning. They are able to reproduce as fast or faster than the larvae have been consuming them. I've just been adding the phyto morning and evening. At least the density hasn't seemed to be affected. I hope they are eating. It sure seems like it by the bulges in their midsection.
Grow out will not be easy until I can get a system together.

It's kind of hard to tell. I would say somewhere between 40-60.
I don't expect to get them all through meta, but I suppose some should make it. I'm learning as I go. I lost the last clutch by not having redundancy in the air system, but that's the way learning curves usually goes.

I assume you were talking about the larval trap setup. It works on the same principle as an external overflow. The screen houses an adjustable pump that pumps water out of the vessel. As the water is pumped out, the u-tube pulls water out of the larger tank. You use a 5w led to attract the larvae as they hatch and as they approach the light they get sucked into the larval box.
If you didn't use an overflow and didn't have a lot of flow in the tank, you could leave this running at night and I bet you get all sorts of larvae. I got some acro crab larvae one night when I miss-timed the first hatch. I wouldn't know how to go about raising those guys. I could only imagine they have extremely long larval stages. That's just a guess though.
That is basically how it works. If anyone wants to get a well-made trap to try your hand at raising some clownfish, contact Chris. It's extremely convenient. I just hang it on my tank instead of having to set up a 5gallon at tank level every time I think there is going to be a hatch.

kevin, I have this thing i made for cleaning the bottom of the tanks and not sucking up babys. I have BECOME AN EXXXPPPEEERRT. I think i am going insaine... I have tooo many babys. 7 clutches(or bunches or whatever you call them.) of seahorse babys......

how are you starting the siphon with the u-tube though.

to start a siphon thru the u tube, you run a piece of airline tubing up to the top while the ends of the u tube are under the water. you can then suck the air out thru the airline tubing and that gets the siphon started.

Hoops with this, it's actually easier to fill the tube and then cover the ends of the tube with saran wrap. Then turn it over and remove the tube. Make sure you have water in the collection vessel at least to the leve of the u-tube end. The way Sarah mention is how I fill my tubes for my external overflow. I just found that it is easier as you can control when the pump is turned on without a problem. Also you can start it with less flow this way.
