Lol, Randy. You've got that right.
Mel ~ When my wife went into the hospital in labor, I thought I had broken my tailbone by the time I got there. That was Monday. Wednesday I went to the Dr. to find out what was wrong. He said I had a Pilonidal Cyst. He didn't seem too concerned and seemed very vague and brushed it off. Well by the end of the week, I could barely walk and couldn't even sit down for more than a minute or two. By the next Wednesday, I had to see another Dr. The next Dr. said it was definitely a pilonidal cyst but it was so infected and inflammed that he couldn't even examine it. He said that I should see a surgeon as soon as possible. Two days later I went to see the general surgeon. By that time I was running a fever of 102 degrees and feeling absolutely horrible. He said that there wasn't a chance that we could wait any longer so he told me to go straight to the hospital and get ready for surgery. At 6:00 that evening I was in the OR. By the time he had taken it out, it had abscessed and was about 2" deep. It was almost touching my tailbone. That's where the problem came in. If it had gotten to the bone, it would have gone straight up my back. Definitely don't want an infection there.
After the surgery he told me he wasn't exactly sure what it was. I still haven't heard. The jury is still out, I suppose. I go back and see him in two weeks. Needless to say, this abscess was at the very base of my back, maybe a little lower. Extremely painful. What Randy is talking about... they had to pack the wound, but they didn't stitch or staple it up. They said they wanted to leave it open so that it would heal from the inside out. They packed it with 4 FEET of guaze. It's still extremely painful, but they've got me on 5/500 hydrocodone every 6 hours. Seems to take the edge off somewhat. Shame I have to go back to work on Thursday though. It's going to be at least 6 days before the packing comes out.
At least I can walk now. That's a plus, right? LoL!
Randy, you are right! It's a BIG P I T A!
