Thanksgiving Anemone Help

Well I got my first anemone the other day from dbates.... and The first 2 days I had it, it seemed to be doing GREAT... I always thought when people said they moved by themselves to find a more suitable place in the tank I thought they meant like an inch or two, needless to say he can be clear across the other side of the tank when I wake up in the morning....

This morning when I woke up though he was attached to the glass all the way at the top of the tank and he was all closed up. He had a strand of what looks like a mucus or something coming off him.... Yesterday he ate a chunk of rods food that I put into the tank, I would think thats okay for him to eat....

Heres a pic of him yesterday:

Here are some pics of him this morning.....

I checked all of the water parameters today and they were as follows:

SG - 1.024
PH - 8.4
Alk - 1.7
Calcium - 400
Nitrate - 0
Nitrite - 0
Ammonia - 0

Is there anything else I should be testing for in the water ??? All the other corals seems fine along with all the snails and shrimp.

I use Kent nano reef parts A&B everyday like they suggest, and have been using purple up to try to get my coraline started.

Any suggestions ??

I think your tank is to new for an anemone, personally.. and that may be the source of the problem. Also I know I asked before but what type of lights are you running? and also watch those powerheads if he gets sucked in one of them say goodbye..

After mine eats he closes up for a day or so and hides in the rocks. Then he comes back out after a day or two.

I have the upgrade kit from nanotuners... its a biocube 29, and I have 144w of PC lighting..... I have no powerheads for it to get sucked into, that thing next to it is a hydorflo that just spins around making waves from the output of my return pump behind the false wall. There is a TON of light in this tank.... from the bottom of the lights to the top of the substrate is only 11 inches, so its fairly powerful lighting...

What do I need to do to make the tank "older" ??? I used water from a 3 year old established tank, and also had some sand (about a hlaf inch deep across the entire bottom) from the same tank, and he had many really nice looking anemones in his tank...

Im running a protein skimmer in the tank, should I turn that off or let it keep running ??

Ah, so he could just be digesting ??? I know my python turned into a lazy bum after eating too, but didnt know that anemones did that also.... :)

the first time mine did this i thought it was dying before my eyes. if the stand is coming from the dude's mouth i would almost guarentee that its just taking a poop.

Thanks for the link Jcar.... I definitely think its deflating to poop... its got some pretty nasty stuff coming out of its mouth at the moment... Ill just give it some time and hopefully itll get better soon. :)

Your welcome, when I first saw mine pooping, I thought it was dying also. Good luck with it, they are cool. When I first started I bought a small RBTA(a few inches) around six months ago, it got huge, split and now I have six. I would like to try and get rid of some but they are all on the same rock and I don't want to risk damaging them trying and get them off.

I just wanted to thank all of you who replied... I got home from my parents house for the Thanksgiving dinner and he is once again all spread out and puffy.... Granted he is still on the glass towards the top of the tank, but if thats where he wants to hang out, then so be it.

Thanks guys. :)

don't be fooled with the hydorflo, that can easily catch your anemone. All you need is one tentacle to catch on as it turns and the next thing you know. . .

I am currently trying to find a way to "Y" off the stock output with two loclines, but the stock stuff to go onto the false wall is some crazy size.... I guess it wouldve been to convenient to make it anindustry standard. :rolleye1:

Question, will this anemone ever stay in one spot ?!?!? Now hes behind the rocks.

My RBTA stays put. I had a green one at 1st & it moved everywhere. Yours may just be looing for the perfect spot. After my green one stayed behind the rocks for 3 days, I returned it, thinking it might die there.

ARRRRRRGGHH.... I spent the entire day finding parts to make a "Y" with locline work on this tank, I get home to take the hydorflo off so he doesnt ever get caught in there and I find him stuck to the intake vent grates when I get home.

I powered off the pump and he fell off the intake, but hes not looking too good.

Any new suggestions ?!?!?

He is already looking better since I went out for a few hours and just got back. I dont know how to try to prevent that from happening again though is my only problem... I cant really block the filter intake.
