the 1700g stingray reef

No, I've not spoken with Energy in a while, not since he posted this thread.

If you read the last page of that thread, he's suggesting people trade frogs with thermos shipments like we do frags. I guess you can't turn your back on everything you've learned. :D

Hey, hey, hey,- Hi guys and gals- sorry I've been gone so long- I've been having a blast building a new system and relearning everything over from scratch!

A lot of the fun is in the build. This has given me a chance to totally rethink my way of doing things. The new system is more of a biotope. It has two connected - yet seperate water areas that share the filtration. Each end of the tank has a "lake" feature with a "river" connects them.

Overall the system is still very young. It's only been up for about three months.

My reef wasn't truly "cool" in my eyes till it was about two years old. I don't expect this to be up to it's potential for another 6 months to a year.

Cool fact- All the logs and vines are fake! Even the small ones that wrap around the larger ones. I had to figure out how to do this and thankfully there is a ton of info over on the dendroboard on how to build stuff like that. WHY IS THIS IMPORTANT? Haha - half the people that send me pm's want to know how to build the fake live rock- well over there they have real video footage of it being done. It's all the same principle- PVC pipes - then great stuff styrofoam and then I carved it to look like live rock and finally mixed epoxy with aragonite and painted it over the styrofoam- (to make the fake live rock).

Same principle to build the fake logs but a few different steps and materials.
