The 180 gallon Ocean Reef

I'm currently running 2 modded maxijets, one at each end. This has created a lot of variable water movement and corals love it. No need for an expensive wave maker! :)

The nervous system, where all the filtration takes place. I used to have the sump stationed in the basement which was pretty neat, but I think it would be better to have everything together.

That is nice, I like your fish selection. How long have you had the CBB? I'm thinking of limo tint on the outside of the black glass. I have a store bought black thingie and I get salt between it and the glass. A pain in the butt.

Thanks zsqure, I've had the Copperband for about 6-7 months. He's doing great and eating like a champ. The limo tint sounds pretty cool. An easy fix for the black background is to thoroughly clean the sheet and then ducktape the top of it. This way there's really no way salt creep can get in there. I like the black background and gives a nice reflection. Either way would work out nicely. How much would the limo tint idea cost?

It looks good, love the aquascaping, doing the island look and bare bottom. Love your fish selection, very nice.

tim the new tanks comin along great

thanks kevin. How's everything with your new setup? 125 gallon is a nice tank. Are you planning on stocking it with more fish, considering the extra length? Also, curious as to your new lighting setup..you should make a build thread! lmk when it's complete I'd like to check it out sometime. You're welcome to stop on by if you'd like.

Thanks ptr! Yeah, I'm going for a more natural look. I'm still in the process of aquascaping, I'll post a new pic soon when it's completed.
I was looking at your tank looks like you have a good amount of fish I have. Nice taste. :fish2: How are you going about dosing for your sps and what lights do you have over that tank? It's looking real nice! Cool clams as well.

Thanks Sweet ride!

I was checking out your tank, you have a really nice setup as well!

I'll be diving into the sps world. I'd like to eventually have a mixed reef with softies, lps, and sps.

I see your using brs 2 part as well. Do you have the solutions hooked up to dosing pumps and running them on a timer? I'm using this method and really enjoy the simplicity of it's use.

I'm probably going to be adding a good WC schedule with this tank. My previous setup wasn't desinged with an easy WC routine. I'm thinking a 20% every 2 wks should be sufficent.

How do you go about nutrient export?

Glad you enjoyed the pictures. Yeah, I really like it there. There is so much fun activities to do around this area. What did you end up doing at your stay there? Gotta love the snorkeling..I'd love to go diving sometime!! :fish2: Hey, who knows maybe I'll bump into you sometime! lol

thanks for the compliments SaltwaterAdict!!!!

As per the BRS 2 part I use a very basic dosing setup ie. digital timer + Tom Aquatics Aqua Lifter. I do split the dosing thought the day to minimize any spikes in the system.

As per nutrient export, am running your basic GAC/GFO + Bio pellets. On top of that I over skim the system and do a 20 gallon water change every 2 weeks.

yes! you never know we might just bump in to each other!!!!

Nice keeping it simple is the way to go! How are the biopellets working out for you? I was thinking about trying them, but I've seen a lot of mixed reviews? lmk how your levels are looking and any huge drops in nitrates/phos.

I went with 3 islands, two smaller ones on the ends and a large one in the middle. I'm happy with how it turned out and got the rockwork like I was imagining. I'll be adding sand in the near future to give it that more natural look! :fish1:

I'm currently reaquascaping and going with taller structures and valleys, like you'd see when snorkeling. This way I can add more corals and gain elevation. It's still in the works and will take a few more days to complete. I'll post new pics when complete. Should be soon..
