The 6000's have arrived!!!!!

Roger, I remember you posting somwhere about the special Tunze media for the 3174/3 and how it dissolves completley so that you never need to actually change the media, but just fill it up...? What is the origin of this media, and do we have to worry about phosphates with it...? Does it also supply trace elements...?

It is 99.10% pure CaCO3. It also has .40% MgCO3, .25% SiO2, .15% Al2O3 and .04% Fe2O3, the remaining .06% is of misc trace compounds in levels too low to be measured. I don't know the source exactly but I suspect it is just the deposits from boiler pipes- likely from a brewery or some place with a very pure water source.

I don't know that I could get away with it in the Ecosystem as it is basically a large refugium. Oh, I mixed those up I was thinking about the kalkwasser and osmolator setup. I will look into the Koralin and Schuran units. I have to be careful with the size of the unit though, because I am fast running out of space in my cabnet.

Brewboy, the Tunze reactor is quite compact, and as long as the submerged area of your Ecosystems was deep enough, I see no problem fitting it in there. As a matter of fact, the macros could utilize any excess C02 escaping the reactor... Roger mentions needing an 8" water level, and I am sure the Ecosystems sump would accomodate this...?

Roger I am impressed with the specs on this media... I have been concerened with running the more traditonal medias and trace element release in conjection with the Ecosystems MM releasing trace elements as wellââ"šÂ¬Ã¢â‚¬Ârecipe for overdose sometimes I think (not to mention regular water changes)... The Tunze media sounds like a good way to alleviate much of that concern...

With a fairly calcium hungry 100 gallon tank, how often (roughly of course) is one looking at filling up the media in the 3174/3...?

Intresting I may have to consider it then in the sump would be better because of the space issue. Would it be enough for my tank which will be mostly SPS with some LPS?
