The angel thread to end all angel threads: all owners of angelfish in reefs respond!!

I recently tried an eibli angel. I had one before Hurricane Gustav that was reef safe and a great fish. Not so with this one. It quickly displayed a taste for acans and nipped some other lps, but it left sps alone. I had to evict it. So sad but it will go to a good acan-free home.

Flame angel - hasn't touched anything in 6 months
Lemon peel angel - still in QT, we'll see (although not likeing some of the reviews...)

Pair of Goldflakes: 1.5 years. Mixed reef. Went on a zoa eating spree, but ignored some completely. SPS are nipped at, but nothing permanent. Lack of PE on SPS leads to slower growth. Chalices & clams are doing ok. No acans in that tank.

Passer: 1 Year. No problems in a tank with bubble tips, rock flower, sponges, trunicates, and fungia.

Maculosus: 1 Year. Same as Passer.

3 Potters: Few months. Same as Passer. (Lost these guys in a power outage.)

Flame: Mixed reef, mostly acans. Everything seems ok, but only had in there about 4 months so far. Haddon green carpet. No stick SPS.

Coral Beauty: Loved eating macro algae, so much that once the macros were destroyed, it began attacking the decorator crab who had attached algae to himself. Nipped at feather dusters regularly. Didn't bother corals at all.

Does anyone have any experience with the Cortez Angel in a reef?

1. African flameback - C. Acanthops
2. Not really
3. Destroyed a Pocillopora in 2 days.

Still very new in tank, will see if he leaves other corals alone.

LobsterOfJustice: i dont know if i am reading the excel file wrong ... but it seems to me that you are not making a difference between brazil flameback/fireball (Centropyge aurantonotus) and african flameback (Centropyge acanthops).

If so, why is that?

Didn't mess with any corals

Flame Angel #1
Didnt mess with any corals.

Flame Angel #2
Loved star polyps, picked at zoos, and (i suspect based on polyp extension) bothered the SPS. He got relocated.

Eblii Angel
Great fish, didn't pick on anything. I did not have clams in that tank, so I cant comment on that.

Lemonpeel Angel
2. For the most part yes, He is fine with lps and softies but not with sps although a can keep plating species.
3. He is reef safe.... I feed him mysis, krill, and plankton with selcon, i also feed him lettuce once in a while.

I'M BAAAAAAAAAAAAAACK

All data entered.

Wow, great file. Very surprising. Very Very surprising really.
Might have to try me a Queen angel, Or a pair of flames.

Gold Flake, leaves my hammers, torches, anemones, sps, chalices, inverts alone. Nips at the odd zoa/paly, but they still grow, so can't be too bad.

Regal... its too soon to say.

I have had a flame for a few months in my mixed 156g tank. SPS (BIG monti, slimer, birdsnest, acro....), LPS (torch, frogspawn, hammer, trumpet, elegance, brain) and softies (colt, leather, mushrooms, zoa, GSP) and a Max clam. So far he has not touched anything, if he has I havnt seen it and nothing shows stress or any other signs.
I want an adult colored Imperator as my next and last fish. fingers crossed!

True Lemon Peel angel owned for 1 week, obliterated my birds nest coral
