The angel thread to end all angel threads: all owners of angelfish in reefs respond!!

I had a Coral Beauty in a 55 gallon mixed reef (no SPS nor Tridacnids) for 10 years...lost the fish 4 months ago in a move. Sigh. Anyway, I never noticed any nipping on any sessile or motile inverts.

Hey guys, I have a 275 display 8'x30"x24" (lwh) with a 4" emperor angel. The only thing he pics at is a huge kenya tree next to his cave but not enough so it doesn't get bigger.

My lfs has this amazing 12" queen angel that I absolutely love. I don't mind if it eats coral, but I just don't want it to eat my SPS. Should I get this fish? It sounds like it's just luck of the draw.

Had several over the years in my sps dominated mixed reef. As for non-sps, I have mushrooms, zoas, palys, acans, clams, leathers, candycanes, BTAs...

Potters: over one year, never nipped at anything

Coral Beauty: two years, never nipped at anything

Fisheri Angel: sadly only six months, never nipped at anything

Rusty: year and a half so far, never nipped at anything

Brazillian Flameback: first year in the tank, he never nipped at anything. Then he suddenly started taking chunks out of clam mantles. That was enough for me to remove him.

Koran: over one year, only nipped at my candycanes

would not put that Queen with your Emperor, would probably end in disaster

Eibli Angel- picked on LPS and Softies
Cherub Angel- touched nothing and was ideal angel until carpet surfed
Flame Angel- nipped at LPS
Lamarck's Angel- believe it or not, one of the worst angels I have ever kept. Almost destroyed my entire LPS stock in the span of 2 weeks. Beware these are not always reef safe like everyone (like me at one time) assumes they are

Thinking of getting a cherub or african flameback. Reading here to determine.

BUMPITY BUMP BUMP

I have had both, and thought both were great.

Any update on the spreadsheet? Can you post the SpreadSheet itself so we can do formulas and tinker with it?

Bicolor angel, only pics on acans, some brains but not others?(Had a small rainbow open brain never picked on, but very large green open brain it decieded to feast on) challices. everything else, including SPS (as long as it isnt dieing) is fine with it

I've had an Asfur and Flame angel in a 290 gal mixed reef for about 2 years without any problems. They get fed twice a day. I do think there is always a risk with angels in a reef but for me they are worth it!!!

Wish my Cherub would eat mushrooms! Still, no picking at LPS. Suspected of killing some Zoas tho.. 3+years in tank.

I posted a few months back about my Majestic with "angel-like" behavior and not nipping on anything. He is now nipping my cup coral that has now refused to open anymore. :(
Its been with me since March.
