The bleached anemone thread

I dont want to invade your thread but I have had a gbta for about 2 months now and it hides under a cave and doesnt have tentacles just tiny nubs. I was told to move it in light and put eggcrate and layers of screen over it and remove a screen every week or so to aclimate it. Its been over a week and it went back into a cave. I've read to feed it daily and not feed it at all. It still sticks to rocks but it still looks awful. Not sure what to do. I have a 72gal bowfront with cree leds at 65%.

Feed it! Don't move it around unless you cannot reach it to feed it. Feed it daily for a week or two. Then every other day. Then you can go to a few times a week or longer until you reach the feeding schedule you want. I recommend once or twice a week (normally once a week, but I love feeding them).

Can you post your parameters? I would also recommend starting a thread on this with pictures if possible.

bringing this thread back.. im attempting to save a gbta...

my tank and my journey:

68g cadlights (68g 35.5 x 19.5 x 21.5) upgraded from a year old 29g
water params as of 8/16:

Am dosing two part:
alk - 144ppm, i have been keeping alk stable between 144ppm and 160ppm (8 - 9)
Calcium - 440 ppm (keeping this stable as well)
Nitrate - 4ppm?? almost undectable
Salinity - 1.025
lights - 2x a160we 1x a360we
phosphate - im not having an bloom of any sort.. running chaeto and have been dosing nopox in super small amounts daily..

I have 24.7% total water change in August.

put gbta in tank on 7/11/15, he walked around a bit, found a spot in the back, low to the sand on a rock.. he would inflate/deflate alot.. clowns would not leave it be..

i would see it stretching for light alot, would try to baste mysis on it.. etc.. not sure if the clowns or other fish stole it.

fast forward to today.. ive noticed lately the nem would deflate into nothing during the day and open at night now.. i keep thinking is he okay..? he hasnt had his tips in the light lately, uh, he not looking good.. time for action..

yesterday i dug up the rock this guy is on.. put him under direct lighting and fed him some raw table shrimp (in total about half a shrimp spanning from 5pm yesterday to 6AM today).. some of his tentacles actually looked a lil better... mouth still gaping and hes white... from reading karens site.. he is starved.. and i believe it.. he was not getting optimal light from the spot he chose.. ive read so much that these guys move if they are not happy.. that was not the case...

so since in his new placement and with spot feeding, he has not deflated like usual, he also has a some flow on him.. (gyre 130 pulsing)..

I had to move him to optimal lighting and for the ease of feeding and monitoring.

I will post pix of the progress pending what he looks like when i get home.. if he is falling apart, im sad to say, i will be taking him and his rock out.. i cant afford to nuke my tank at this time.. fingers crossed..

from my readings on karens site.. there is hope since he ate the food i put directly on his mouth..

i really want to save this guy and will do all i can. any tips are welcome at this point..

im guessing i should pull this guy out if he starts falling apart? is that the removal time?

it doesnt look better.. it couldnt take the piece of shrimp i prepped post work.. but i think it was too much.. he spit it back out..
+ i gave him a lil nip of shrimp this AM before work.

Did a 10g W/C & put new carbon in the reactor.

At what point do pull the plug and ease his suffering?

can he be brought back?

Give it a piece of raw shrimp no bigger than 1/4"x1/2" with no shell. This is large brown shrimp you buy at the grocery store for human consumption. You gave it too large a piece of shrimp and probably had shell,so it threw it up. The shell makes it harder to digest. With a sic nem need to do the most you can for them IMO.

FYI that nem isn't even close to dying. Feed it like I said once a week and give it good water flow, parameters, proper lighting and it will be fine

BTA's can look like crap during their daily doings. When it gets rid of waste you will think it's dying, don't worry it will be fine  Just follow what i said in my last post.

Proper:
water parameters
lighting
water flow (not too much just gentle)
food once a week.

Always if you have a question give us a picture and ask

I think it can be brought back, I've seen worse.
Usually I see best results by feeding small foods like mysis, easier to grab and puts lets stress on your nem.
I'd squirt mysis towards it a couple times a week.

i fed it frozen raw de-shelled shrimp,, quarter inch at most... but then again, i gave him a a smig of the same this AM.. which he took..

he also took some last night..

ok so ill attempt feeding daily til i see color.. ill give him til tomorrow after work til i attempt feeding again, ill let him digest what hes had.

squirting mysis is tough with other tankmates (specially other inverts).. they just see loose mysis as a mysis jamboree. to get him to eat yesterday i had to fend off snails, fish, cleaner shrimp. every man for himself in there.

So feed the fish, then squirt w/ a turkey baster towards nem, it will pick up mysis.
If you search you will see this is what most have done and used to bring back a bleached nem.

i think im having prerty good success with the raw shrimp bits on a skewer.. the thing is so weak it can eat unless i put it in his mouth..

Im no expert but this DEF. does not look good.. had i not been late for work. i probably would of pulled this out..

then on my way in, im thinking.. is that splitting? I cant say its rotting, but splitting maybe due to stress??

should i pull this out as soon as i get home??

Hard to say, but this is why I suggested mysis instead of a large piece of shrimp, in bringing them back to health you want as few stress factors as possible.
It's possible it looks bad because lights were out and it may be closed up, you will know more probably when you get home, maybe post pics then.

the middle of the nem is def. LR poking thru.. that is confirmed.. i touched it with a skewer.. at first i thought it was taking a massive #2..
