So my Bubble Magus 180 CS has been running a few days now, and the performance is definitely matching the impressive build quality. I have to admit that I did do one small mod. I ended up swapping out the 1/4" air line with 3/8". I like to skim on the dry side, and knew from modding previous skimmers, the 3/8" would help bring in more air. Below are some pics and video of the results. The skimmate you see in the cup is 48 hours worth. I have to say I am really impressed with this skimmer, and extremely happy with my purchase. Thanks to all the previous owners for posting their experiences with their BM skimmers. Without them, I never would have given this skimmer a try!

Just a note of my experience. I have had a BM100 running for about a year and a half at this point. It pulls out good skimmate and I am pleased with the production. It sometimes stops sucking air, but I can often blow into the tube to make it continue again. A few times I have had to disassemble the skimmer to get it working again.

This is where the only issues I have with the skimmer is. I like it's small base, the energy efficiency, the thickness of the acrylic and the production. However, taking it apart is both a pain and hard on the skimmer.

The pump's locking 'nut' has had one of the handles break off while spinning it with very little force. The plastic screws that hold the base are slowly getting stripped so it will be soon difficult to open the base. And the black base (they might be white now) Has cracked and is just holding on through pressure now.

Other than this, it's still running well. I just want to mention the longevity may not be the best (especially if one of the parts that will break on yours is essential unlike mine), but for the price you really can't beat it.

Setting Up BM 160

Setting Up BM 160

I need some help setting up my recently aquired BM 160, which I purchased used (1)year old. I would like to set it up under the tank inside the stand and need to know what size pump is recommended as the feed pump or should I gravity feed it? Second question how does the return work? Im looking into using it externally and am wondering how much water is returned? Thanks

What is the height of the collection cup jpatritian? I'm trying to figure out if I can squeeze the cup between my 40B sump and the cabinet.

Thanks!

The total height of the skimmer is 20.5". The collection cup itself is 4.75" and you'll need about 1" of clearance to remove the cup from the body.

Hope that helps.

What do you want to know? Sure I know about them. Have I used them? Nope but I love my NAC6!

They are great little skimmers for smaller tanks. I think they cost right around $100.

If they are good like the biggest versions? i have NAC6CA too, and i have to admit it's very great skimmer.

Now i'm planning to set up a new tank...a nano reef with sump...and i'm thinking to use this baby skimmer NAC3 or if i find, the NAC3+.

So...is it great like the other BM skimmer?

Is there a problem with the bubble plate design on the BM180? I read somewhere that people were complaining about it but I can't find out why.

From the few people that have reviewed them, they sure liked them. For $100 I don't think you will find anything better.

Im using the NAC3+ on my 75 do to limited space. Its been running for about a week now and working excellent and it is very quiet.

ok after reading this entire thread i have decided to get a bubble magus. now should i go with the nac6 or nac7 for my 40gal sps with 20gal sump?
