NAC6 been running all night and it's definitely starting to break in. Ridiculous bubble production. So far, so awesome!

My buddy just got an Eshopps PSK-200 and he's gonna give it to me to run alongside the NAC6 for comparison. The Ehopps is rated for up to 200 gallons so we'll see how it does.

Been running it for about 26 hours now in a 30 gallon Rubbermaid filled to 10". It's definitely putting out some bubbles and foam. I'm still playing with the flow to get it skimming nice and dry, but I'm liking the power so far.

I took the lid off and forgot to put it back on before I left for a couple hours. This is what I found when I got back:

That's some CRAZY foam!

Tusca, that is cool. Where do you have your water level in the skimmer set? Looks to be below the NAC sticker. Have you had a skimmer on that tank before?

Ive had my NAC6 running for 6 days on my 75g, since I got the replacement impeller.
Very impressed.
It out skims the Bubble Master 200 that I have on my 180g. Much better construction as well

Actually the water level in the skimmer was pretty low, but it was still cranking out the foam like that.

It's not currently running on a tank. I have it in a Rubbermaid container with 10" of water that I got from a water change on my 55. I had mixed in some skimmate from the SeaClone that I have. That's why the thing was going crazy.

I'm gonna put it on my new 75 but my sump/fuge is not quite done. I'm actually painting the back of the sump to make it look nice. But it will be hooked up on a tank by tomorrow. And I will soon move everything from my 55 into the 75.

NAC-7 collection cup crazing - any experiences of this in the US?

NAC-7 collection cup crazing - any experiences of this in the US?

Guys,

Just an alert from the UK. I have had my NAC-7 running a little over a week now. Last week it was brilliant. This week however I am having problems which last night, lead to me deciding to give it a good clean. Basically here is a cut/copy/paste from my post on Ultimate Reef. Would be interested to hear if you guys have had any experience of this and also, what you think.....

Anyone with a Bubble Magus skimmer, specifically the NAC-7 - take a look at your collection cup and see if you have this....

My NAC-7 is really pi$$ing me off at the moment. For some reason it is just not skimming so today, I decided to take it out and give it a good soapy water clean and dry as I did when it was brand new and skimmed almost instantly - anyway, thats another story and another post.....On drying the collection cup, I noticed the above marks which look like the plastic is cracking. They ARE NOT cracks but it does seem weird. I wonder if it is ozone doing it as I run for 2 hours at night. The bubble level was staying the same for the last 2 days - not skimming, just bubbling almost like a skimmer bedding in so I wonder if the 2 are related OR BM skimmer shouldn't run with ozone or is my skimmer flawed.

Would be interested to hear from BM owners who run ozone or who have similar problems and I also wonder if this is somehow affecting the skimmer performance as it has gone to the dogs for the last 3 days and no skimmer needs that long to get going again.

I'm all ears

Lee

.....the feedback from the UK is generally buy cheap, get cheap crap. I don't agree 100% but a few guys have come up with the suggestion that these skimmers are not made from cast acrylic but extruded acrylic which has this crazing problem if exposed to some detergents or gases (namely O3). Maybe this is where BM can cut the cost for such high performing machines.

Anyway - food for thought guys!

Regards from the UK,

Lee

why would you use soap to clean your skimmer? plain hot water is fine. i would have to say the crazing is from one of the two. i have had mines for over a year, and albiet some wear and tear on the acrylic is starting to show, no crazing

I use hot water and a very little dish soap to clean the cup on my SeaClone. Basically I just use the residual suds that may be left on the sponge from something else. The stupid SC seems to lose efficiency when it gets just a little buildup. I have never had any issue like this with the plastic on the cup.

The instructions that came with mine stated that the bedding in phase be greatly reduced if the skimmer was cleaned with hot water and soap. This was true - it skimmed within an hour of being put in the tank. I just figured I would give it a good clean again and start over. Glad I did as I have now highlighted this 'potential' flaw in BM collection cups if using ozone.

I would say hot soapy water is less threat than O3 and going on some of the posts on UR at the moment, it seems that extruded acrylic (basically heated, stretched and formed and cooled quickly) is suseptable to this. It could well be something BM need to address as many reefers use ozone. How many BM owners use ozone - I am trying to find out....certainly in the UK. the feedback so far hasn't really been from BM users who dose O3 but if I get anything significant, I will post up on here to keep you guys informed.

Lee

I've been keeping up with all the BM discussion that's out there and admittedly I haven't read about a lot of people using ozone with theirs. After all, it doesn't explicitly have an input for hooking something like that up. That doesn't mean you shouldn't be able to.

Knowing how many people do this with their skimmers, if the manufacturer knows how ozone would affect their acrylic then they have an obligation to tell you not to use it.

Very true - something well worth mentioning when I email them. However due to the Chinese new year and the probable back log because of this, I don't expect a prompt (if any) reply!

LEE Utdk I have seen crazing like that when people have used alcohol to clean their skimmers. I remember seeing this on at least two expensive skimmers before. Hope all goes well.

Need some help with a loud NAC6. I just set it up and the pump is making a lot of noise. When I pinch the airline, it quiets down completely so it's the air going into the impeller and causing vibration.

Anyone know how to quiet these down?

Thanks in advance.
