Still looking at the BM 160 for my 120 gal tank and I am wondering if people are happy with the wedge pipe or has anyone considered doing a gate valve modification for better fine tuning?

To me the wedge pipe is as good as a gate valve. You can feel the changes as you turn the pipe, if that makes sense. It is a breeze to fine tune. I find them equal in terms of ease of adjustment and I have had both.

I also like the wedge pipe for control, the one on the BM160 has an o-ring that makes fine adjustment even easier than my older v1 BM100. Two big advantages over the gate valve:
1. Space, the wedge pipe doesn't take up any extra room
2. durability, there is no tight fitting shaft to crack or break

how are these pumps on energy? Anyone notice a big jump on their electric bill?

Dimensions: 6.7" x 10.6" x 21.6" (L*W*H)
Cylinder: 6"
Pump: ATMAN PH2500 115V
Power Consumption:
~28 KWH at 11" water depth
~24 KWH at 8" water depth
~21 KWH at 6" water depth

Does anyone know the cup clearance on the BM 100? I was looking at ordering one, but I only have 27" under my stand. Will I be able to take the cup off of the skimmer?

I measured and it is 1" to remove the collection cup.

I've got a question. How much restriction does the silencer create? I've removed mine and have noticed an improvement in skimmate production. Has anyone else noticed this? If not could someone give it a try and let us know the results.

Danreefs keep us posted on your new skimmer..........

I am thinking of getting the BM 150. I can't find a price for this anywhere. Can someone let me know? Thanks!

They go for $300 or so on ebay. I think Nuocean had them for $265, but they've been out of stock for a while and don't expect any for a few weeks.

so, guys who have the 160, how has it been holding up? i've been reading a lot of problems with the 100

i'd like to get the 160, but can't find enough positive reviews from people who have had them for a while.

no problems with my Bm100..problems I think where in version1...I have version 2 and it works just fine..never any issues with startup after truning off and its very very quiet

I have the v2 BM160, it's working great so far (since 1-17-2009).

No restart issues, or clogging. No issues with the pump or any of the parts/pieces, makes great foam. I still haven't removed it from the sump to clean, or cleaned the pump shaft.

i have been debating selling my BM150, and getting the BM250S.

i think it will be a bit overkill for my 125G, but i am quite stocked.

i couldnt be happier with the performance of the BM150, i rave all the time about the performance. i wish someone would give some input on the BM250S.
