How deep are you running the skimmer? This is the critical point on any of the internal BM skimmers. My skimmer never performed to expectations untill I adjusted the sump.

im running it in 10" of water...like the NAC6 and most BM skimmers...guys with nac7.. please chime in on sump level for skimmer....!

What is a realistic footprint on that bad boy? I am wondering if it or the NAC6 would fit in my 10g sump (10x10"ish skimmer compartment).

Also, does the NAC6 or 7 require 9-10"? Mine is 8 1/2" would that work?

is anyone else having trouble with the nac6 meshwheel impellers shattering after a few weeks of running? I've gone through two of them in just over a month now

i have my nac 6 running in 9 in of water..haven't really found the "sweet spot" either..whats everyone else running there nac6 in?-Drew

Yes, I've had an impeller shatter on me within 3months of usage. Just recently put in the spare but now it's not spinning. Very aggravating at the moment to say the least. I got tired of fiddling with it and decided I'll wait until after the holidays to deal with the skimmer. :mad2:

NAC6 Mesh Impeller help

NAC6 Mesh Impeller help

I just purchased a BM NAC6 w/ mesh impeller. Where/ how do I install the mesh impeller?

my nac 6 will skim good for days and then i will come in and it will be overflowing..they i will calm it down and it will skim for a few days then go back down..is there a meshwheel problem here or is it trying to pull something out of the tank when it comes across it?-Drew

anyone else with the nac6 have this problem or just know what the problem might be?-Drew

I will be setting mine up within the next couple of days, will let you know. By the way did yours bring the the blue valve to adjust airflow? I see it on all the pictures, but mine didn't bring it????

I have a 180 g with a heavy bioload. I am wondering if I should go with a BM180 CS Cone skimmer (rated for 185 - 240 g) or a BM 220 CS Cone Skimmer (rated for 315-450 g). The alternatives I am considering also include the Super Reef Octopus 5000sss internal protein skimmer and the Super Reef Octopus protein skimmer XP-2000 internal or XP-3000 internal. Please let me know what you think would be the right skimmer (& skimmer size) for my system.

I've been running the NAC6 for a couple of weeks now and noticed that there is a bit of turbulence in the main chamber and I'm wondering if that is messing with the skimmers performance. Anyone else having this issue?? Also, since my tank is still cycling I've put in some live sand from a donor tank and that clouded up the water for a couple of days. Shouldn't the skimmer be pulling all the crap out of the water column??

bobafet-mine is doing something similar to i believe..almost like a strong current by where the collection cup goes on?it seems as if its messing with mine performance as well...maybe we need to change the meshwheel and dont know it??-Drew

bunzaroo- if you are talking about the water level adjuster(blue pipe that spins from 1-5 on water level then yes it should have came with it..if not then what part do you mean?lol-Drew

well that would suck if I already have to change the meshwheel being that its barely a few weeks old. I'm wondering if the diffuser chamber is too small or the holes in it are too big. I hate to admit it but I don't think I'm very impressed so far.

i agree..cheap overall price but have to replace the meshwheel every week does not make up for it..im going to take it apart this weekend and see whats going on..its skimming now but not like it was when i first set it up//-drew

I think allot of issues arise when people run meshwheels in any skimmer. For the most part ALL BM owners are oversized to start with, why not be happy and run the needle/pinwheel, even if it's only to 95% performance of a mesh mod?
