The Bubble-Magus Club

I am not sure on when Bubble Magus stuff became readily available but I think they are still pretty new here in the States. There is only a handful of companies that carry them right now. They are also very limited and take time to get here from China. I know Victor at ATB Skimmers is distributing them now but his next shipment is 45 days away still.

I think reviews will be plentiful soon enough but that could be 6 months or so. These skimmers are amazing for the price. I just checked my skimmer today and it only took about 48 hours for it to break in. The foam is dry and really good foam and it is pulling crap out when there isn't much to pull.

I think the bubble plates are a little cheap and could have a little better design but I don't think it is anything I would lose sleep over. Maybe I will take the bubble plate off for a few days and see if there is a noticeable difference in performance.

Anyone using the BM NAC 7 Cone Meshwheel?
Found them on ebay for $265...sees too good to be true
not really...the ebay seller is actually an online retailer (who's actual site has them priced a few dollars less than posted on ebay :p ) and Marine Solutions has them for $250

If you look closer they say or best offer ;)
true...IF your willing to wait a month to see IF they'll accept

That is a Chinese website and shipping will suck. Plus don't forget you will get taxed for the import.

In States they are $265 shipped.

I've pretty much made my mind up, I want a bubble magus. Couple questions. First, it will be for a 40 breeder display tank and either a 30b or 40b sump. The 30b is only 12" tall. What is the minimum water level the BM needs? Should I just use a 40b for the extra height? Where's the best place to buy the NAC6?

I have an octox 200 with a bb3000 and I want to order one just to play around with. That's crazy! I paid more for my bb3000 than this skimmer costs. Let us know when you get one.

You have the same setup that I do and I have a NAC6 for mine. I am using a 20 tall as my sump and will have it sitting between 8.5 to 9.5 inches. I currently have mine setup in a sump curing some rock and the thing is incredible! I am very surprised how well it is working. Great skimmer for the money.

I have run Aqua Euro's and ASM's and neither one were this good. Not even close. The sweet spot for these skimmers seems to be 8 to 10 inches. Try to get close to that range and you should be good.

Thanks for the info. This will be my first time using a skimmer. I will probably go with the 40b for my sump, the added height will only help me. I think the 36" length will be plenty of room for a DSB and LR with cheato.

Just installed the NAC6 on the CADlights pro tank. Its been running less than 24hrs and its in a new modded glass sump so I'm not expecting much right now. I gave everything a good vinegar bath prior to set up and it should be a while till all the chemical residues subside. I ran the skimmer in my mixing tote for 72 hrs with some old water then added a bit of skimmate from the main tank and the thing went berzerk-NICE THICK FOAM! I'm looking forward to seeing what it can do. The only issue I have is that it has had two start up issues already but they were easily solved with some airline off the silencer. The specs say it will pull 500+lph and I'm only at 15scfh(400+) right now so it should improve. Only time will tell!

Are there any tricks to keep the turbulance down in the NA6? I received mine yesterday and i know it will need some break in time but the water is "boiling" rather than a collection of fine bubbles at the top of the body. Thanks!

I don't know if this pertains to your problem, but....
did you give it a vinegar bath before you installed it in your sump?...I have always done this practice as I was told this would clean up any oils/residue from manufacturing and would reduce the "break-in" period on brand new skimmers...
I use a 50/50 mix of white vinegar and warm water and run the skimmer over night in a large rubbermaid storage container ....JM2C :)

Give it 48 to 72 hours. They are a little turbulent but it took mine about 2 days before the foam head collected. Now it is pulling some really nice dry foam and it stinks like a mother when I empty the collection cup. I about lost my meal when I opened the cup lid to clean it out.

I'm getting the turbulence as well and I think it's just from the small bubble box. Probably should have been designed a little larger. I have the cover of the bubble box set correctly over the pump output and still get the surface turbulence similar to the NAC3. Give it some time (few days) to stabilize. Mine was doing that after I cleaned it and ran it in my tub. As soon as I put raw skimmate from the current skimmer into the tub, I immediately had to completely open the wedge pipe and the turbulence dissapated. It should need to get coated before it will start calming down. Mine has been running in sump now for 36 hours and while it's not pulling anything yet, it has calmed down a bit and wide open the breaking foam level is now about 2 inches higher than before. Give it some time. I think BM should maybe have made a bigger box with a larger blocked out section over the pump. However, people seem to be getting good results so I'm hanging in there.

rtparty,

thanks for the heads up on the skimmate making you sick! If mine produces skimmate similar to yours, this will be the first time I'll be looking forward to nausea!LOL!
