The Dream Tank 400 Gallon Display - IN THE WORKS - Input appreciated!!!!

Have two zebrasoma tangs in a tub with the live rock from my old 120 set up. I havnt introduced them yet hoping that I could keep to my stocking order which still includes adding a pair of "reef safe" butterflies, a blue regal, a pair of clowns, and some more wrasses for nuisance control.... I may add them sooner I am just worried about aggression issues if they are placed in before the rest.

Yea, a tomini was on the list, bristle tooth like the Kole. like I said just wanna make sure the other more docile fish have time to settle in

hey guys...some bad news....

Due to some recent events....such as being shocked a few times.... my top off failing tonight...by failing it dumped about 15 gal of water out of the resevoir and burnt of the mag 1.9 pump. I then pick the switch up out of the sump and was shocked again (i did not put my hands in the water of the sump. ) Losing a whole slew of anthias, and fighting a losing battle with hair algae.... I think I may be getting out of the hobby..... So ... Im going to think it over for a few days but anyone in the area who may be interested in any of the equipment...it just may be going up for sale...Im sure Ill have a time getting rid of a 400 gallon tank though....

your just having a bad time. hang in there it will get better. we have to add a gfi to your system so you dont get shocked . maybe you should get one of those tunze ato with the photo eye as a fail safe. I hope things get better for you.somtimes i hate this hoby too..............

i just went over your thread and was looking at your sub panel to see if it was installed correctly . i couldn't tell if it was grounded correctly I need a close up of the panel . then i was reading your thread again and was admiring the detail ,and how awesome the build was turning out. I could never build the stand and the pluming lie you did . i don't have the patience . then i realized you got shocked earlier in the build . If there is one thing that i could do is wire this thing.I am a master electrcian and I will gladly help you fix whatever problem you are having with this panel or sub panel . there is definetly a problem with the grounding you shoud not be getting shocked. LET ME NOW IF YOU WANT ME TO HELP. I WILL PM YOU MY PHONE # AND WE WILL GET TO THE BOTTOM OF THIS.

i just read to all of your post tonight because i was planning to do a same built 750 gallon system. i understand the frustration that comes with this hobby.i myself have 3 small kids with no babysitter ,multiple houses that i need to dispose soon, a very demanding job, wife that makes more than me so she have i lot to say,and loss over 750k in 3 years but this hobby make me sane @ the moment . if this hobby stress you out even more maybe its time to hang it up come back when you are ready.
maybe its not what you want to hear. i am sorry

I can be very honest and say that I went downstairs last night and say my bangaiis fighting the current and I dont want to get out of the hobby. It is frustrating, and stresses me out from time to time a lot more here recently. As far as the shocking goes, all of the "wet circuits" are GFI'd. The light circuit is the only one not GFI'd. The couple big shocks came about a month ago when I did something stupid. My grounding probe was tripping the gfi So i un plugged it......first mistake. I reset the GFI and stuck my hand in the tank...an old maxi jet had shorted out on me and shocked me good. I am just going to have to stop taking short cuts and trip all 3 GFIs before I do any work in the tank. And unplug things before I pull them out of the tank. As far as the hair algae I think its just going to take time and patience. The top off worked without flaw until yesterday. I plugged the top off pump into the second outlet on it and am wondering if the logic is reversed on that plug..... May investigate today.... Im just going to have to slow down with the tank and start being safe/cautious with it all, be patient and accept that I can not control everything that goes on in the tank nor fix everything with a quick fix.....

Hang in there!

Hang in there!

I feel your pain, Obi...well not exactly... ;) but hang in there and things will get better. I am convinced once you get your tangs in the tank, the HA probably will gradually go away while your tangs get fat and sassy...

As to the shocks... you knew better. Don't ever remove your ground probe if it's tripping your GFCI. There's a reason that happened... naughty boy. Glad you're okay and not slumped over on the floor!!! :eek2:

Chin up and forge ahead!

I DONT THINK THE SUB PANEL IS GROUNDED PROPERLY , you have to float the neutral . whitch means that the neutral and the ground are completly seperate, grounds are on ground bar and you dont use the grounding screw on the main panel. you would also need to run 4 wires from the main panel to sub panel 2 hots neutral and a ground . i dont see a ground coming through the offset. I hear a lot about use of a grounding probe witch is used to ground stray voltage from equipment and lighting . I have never used a system like that before can you or someone explain to me or take a picture of this application , thanks

Robot.... not sure what you are commenting on.... Ive never posted a pic of my electrical panel, and I dont have a sub panel... I know a while back when I was talking about the electrical stuff someone else posted some pictures of their panels...could this be what your talking about?

sorry i made a mistake you do use the grounding screw on the main............................i erased the rest of the sentence

Its quite alright, thanks for trying to help. I think the "shockings" have all been warranted by me being an idiot. I.E. plugging something in with a sligh damp hand, or not turning everything off before sticking my hand in the tank! Now last nights "mini" shock was un warranted but I should have been cautious. I removed the autotop off float switch from the sump. While I had it in my hand I touched the float switch/wire and my pinky got a little vibration. Im not sure why this happened but... As I said from now on all three GFI's will be tripped before I do anything....

noticed one of my acros bleaching today,.... not cool. Tried to get a couple pieces of hair algae that were tangled in its branches out... hopefully I dont loose the entire colony
