Nice tank! The pictures at the beginning really helped a friend of mine visualize the layout of his stand. Similar footprint and equipment as yours.

Can you give us a play by play on what zeo process you used to set up such a great DT is what seems like a very short period of time? Time to share the nitty gritty deets :reading:
I'm currently running Zeovit and wondered what differences there are with the FM Zeo?
Does items like flow through the reactor and cleaning the reactor twice daily come into play?
FM are quality products and it's just a shame they're not as freely available over here are they were in the UK.
Right i'm completely bloody lost now Scotty. I thought zeovit was the Korallen method and zeolite was the FM version. Is this right and which bloody one are you guys doing lol. It doesn't take much to throw me :uhoh3:
Andrew you are right: Zeovit is KZ and Zeolight (not zeolite) is FM
So GFO to clean the rock and lots of bak to reseed and neutralize. Any N03 or P04 numbers or just flying by the seat or your pants?
Awesome collection. Were the two ultra trachy/lobos from CDU.
C-L-E-A-N, the most cleanest system I have ever seen, WOW looks amazing!!!
Scotty I think stones and carbon KZ or FM are the same thing"¦.they work at the same way
Ok, so having done some research the FM method relies on Coral growth and colouring to take up the nutrients as opposed to the Zeovit which utilises a Carbon dosing method.
Quite a novel idea and interested how it works for you in the long term.
Okay so as I write this for the second time (the internet died as I hit reply and it disappeared foreverlol). I have been a long time admirer of your tanks and methods of reefing Scotty and everyone definitely should be taking a leaf or two from your book mate
As I am a bit of a fan of the zeo method and other zeolite based methods due to that lovely pastel colouration that can be achieved, I have always found this build and your work fascinating! Because of this I have a few questions about the way you handled your rock for this tank mate as I am upgrading in the near future and looking to do a similar thing to get the best out of the rock.
I know I haven't really said boo on any of your threads but I would truly appreciate and info and help you can offer because imitation is the sincerest form of flatterylol
I'm looking to cook/cycle my rocks in the same matter for the new tank, antiphos and KZ Bak for a month or two, with a piece or two of LR in the mix, so that all being said here's my onslaught of questions haha
Did you run the same batch of rowa the whole time or did you change it out throughout the time as it was used?
Why didn't you run a skimmer on the cycling rock? Because it was largely base rock with no necessary organic output that required skimming?
What do you think the capabilities of the rock are once it's been through such a cycle process? I want to make the transfer of live stock as quick and painless as possible so that one tank can be torn down and the other put up in as little time as possible.
Why did you have your LFS hold your rock? Leave it cycle for a bit or just happened that way?
I would really appreciate some help and info on this Scotty as I want to get things even more right for the new tank and have it kicking along with a fairly short lay over time.
Dom
P.S Don't tell Biggles I was asking you for help, I fear Kevin's reaction will be... unsavoury haha
Thanks so much for the reply mateHi Dom and thanks,
The rowa I exchanged twice while cooking just to make sure I could remove as much po4 as possible.
Your spot on about the skimmer, it was mainly base rock so I felt no need for running a skimmer to pull out organics.
Now as for capabilities i can't say 100% due to my cryptic zone being filled not long after the base went in, I think that also played a major factor in it being filled quickly so it's hard to make a call on that part.
The live rock I picked through when fresh shipments came as I was looking for sponges etc to seed my cryptic zone and seeming as I had no where to store it they were happy to keep it there, worked out well as It was able to cycle at their shop while I waited, take it home and place it straight into the cryptic zone without having a cycle at all.
I won't tell biggles, I've heard nasty stories about that Kevin
Thanks so much for the reply mate
Did you use the recommended amount or be a little generous with it for a little extra oomph? That's why I thought you may have run no skimmer, what are your thoughts on the Marco Rock as it's one of the options I've been looking at for the base rock for the tank.
I really love the idea of a cryptic zone, do you the section darkened or just running the rock down there like normal in a sump without a light? Decent lfs by the sounds of it, it always makes a difference having a good lfs as your go to!
I did a little reading last night to further my knowledge on the FM method you're applying and are you running a slight hybrid of zeolight? A few products missing with the addition of some serious bacteria supplements? lol I really do like what you're doing with it by creating your own system, similar to zeo without carbon dosing really? And a lot of food/amino input?
I definitely can't wait to watch your tank continue to progress mate as I find this build fascinating! And I can do so with comfort knowing that you won't tell Kevin! Last time I was there it was a little weird, he just sat there staring at me :uhoh2:
