ok dont hate me for being stupid.
I have recently got my first anemone, it is a corn anemone. How long will it typically take for the clown hosting process to begin?

bonding between fish and anemone might only take seconds or it might never occur or it might fall in between the two extremes.
It would be helpful to know the correct species of anemone and fish that you have.
I've never heard of a "corn anemone". Can you post a pic or find a pic online somewhere?
The anemone FAQ is working. It's a PDF that takes a few seconds to download ;)

I've only heard of corn anemone applied to Heteractis aurora, but that pic doesn't look like an aurora. What does the column of the anemone look like?

and when i try to read the faq's it just says...atempt to blah blah that has not been implemented. its probably my adobe then

no, don't pull it up. H. aurora does have an orange base. The tentacles just don't look like that species.

Your anemones appears to be an Atlantic Anemone and usuaully clowns will not host in them. I believe that deliver quite a sting to the fish. Just my two cents though take it for what its worth.

I know the LFS you got it from - I go there too and when I asked what a few of those nems were - he told me corn anemone too...

I asked what the scientific name was and he said he couldn't remember. I love that LFS - but he's constantly misnaming anemones...

As it is - it's a really cute anemone!

And by the way - it was hosting ocellairs in the store - for all that are wondering... just to let you know. Now whether yours will host it - who knows! But I have seen it host ocellaris...

Interesting... doing some searches via info found on wetwebmedia and such and found that corn anemones can be a common name for Radianthus Malu which seems to be the same or close to Heteractis malu..

Anyone else know about this Radianthus genus?

Radianthus is not currently used for any of the hosting anemone species I am aware of.

Have seen "corn anemone" applied to numerous species on wholesale lists, but with poor id's in general let's not get caught up in the common names.

It does not appear or sound like an Atlantic species to me.

It does look and sound from the description like a Heteractis species.

Best of luck with it.

Tes it was definitely hosting a pair of clowns that were nearly identical to mine, which is why i bought it to begin with. So I guess there isnt any way to convince my clown that its a nice cozy spot for them to hang out huh?

One thing you can try - is when you feed the tank - use a turkey baster to gently squirt the food onto or over the anemone... and do this first. The clowns will get used to going there and maybe will notice it's there!
