The Farm

I've been very interested in this thread for a while and was going to ask for updates, when...YES, new pics!

I have lots of questions:o:o
I've been wondering, when new stock is/was introduced you mentioned it was dipped and quarantined but was it light acclimated as well? I can't imagine that even when collected in clear shallow water the light intensity they were used to was within 10-20% of what they experience in the vats.

Do you know the ingredients and amount % in the "ant and wasp" killer used to dip them? Have you experimented in this area? Everyone suggests a brand, dose, and duration, but you have a business and obviously being well verse in this topic is in you best interest.

Which coral is your favorite and/or the one that best handles the conditions in the vats? Particularly interested in this one since you have the unique opportunity to witness these corals in the wild, in the vats and in your or others tanks.

I'm trying not to ask about particular things or trade secrets you developed or use.

we don't light acclimate unless we target deep water sps then they are transferred to vats under shade cloth..

The ant and wasp killer has not proven effective on nudi eggs so we go through a painstaking process of inspecting every single new frag under torch light at night until we are 100% sure there are no pests before transferring them to the grow out facility.

As for my favorite coral..... all of em lol, I love sps all sps but if I could only keep 1 kind of sps it would be stags....

Interesting. Come to think of it, the only place I remember seeing yellow corals on the GBR was in the first 5 meters or so and mostly porities.

That is one impressive coral!

I think zinc definitely helps but I find yellows just love being smashed with light.....
Info such as this precious to me since my current build is my first attempt with acros and it just so happens that like in your vats my display tank will more than likely be at or near 3,000 PAR for a few hours all year long:beachbum:

HOLD me guys, I'm sscared!

just be sure to keep your nutrients a bit above ulns

waste water treatment plants use water lilies to remove heavy metals , could it be from the algae in your system that's filtering the heavy metals out ?

In think then light spectrum plays an important part as well as its intensity. I used to have a yellow Porites, which looked yellow under 10000K MH, but looked greeny yellow under T5 because my T5 combination was blue dominated.

I posted earlier in the thread about a piece of the spathulata I believe is from you (I'm uk)

Well that frag which was maybe 1.5" is now colony sized (fist size) after maybe just a bit more than a year. Colour as you can see is outstanding

Bump...it's a gloomy day here, could use some of that Australian Acro Gold to brighten it up.
