The Foam/rock Projects Here Thread

I dont think I covered up my foam well enough with the epoxy and it looks like its been breaking down. It looks like white goopy stuff coming out of the wall in some spots. Do you think it will be bad for the tank?

just thought i'd toss this up.

was going to do foam and epoxy, but just decided on aragocrete. didn't want to worry
about any future problems. the close loop is also integrated into the rock structures.

i just find it easier to post links so those that want to see can click em & those that dont, don't have to wait for them to load every time they come to the thread

Any epoxy resin should be safe, it's the poly resins from fiberglass kits that are still iffy. Some people have used the regular bondo stuff but no real long time evidence yet..

I'd use the stuff you have..

Still no animals. Waiting to finish the closed loop using the 4 returns integrated into the rock wall this weekend.

maybe this was covered and I missed it,...

is the rock in the wall considered when you figure the 1-2lb rock per gallon? or is all the LR needed for filtration in the sump?

I like the looks of the rock wall, but wont have enough room for the LR in sump

Bruno - great updates. I wasn't sure about your particular method as it looked very "thin" for lack of a better word, relative to the big walls that SpeckledGrouper + her hubby have.

For the pico/nano's it seems a very flat wall looks better, takes less real estate, etc.

I really like everyone's results. I'm definitely going foam wall, and my build picked up momentum over Xmas. :D

Thanks again and keep this thread alive everyone.

Like this? www.reefcentral.com?

Open square bracket ( [ ), followed by the word "url" (without quotes), followed by close square bracket ( ] ), then the url itself (www.reefcentral.com for the above example), then closed with an open square bracket ( [ ), the slash ( / ), the word "url" again (without quotes) and the close square bracket ( ] ).

Or in the GUI, hit the URL button and paste your url in there and click ok (or whatever the button is). I almost always use the quick post to reply, so write the html code out myself. Either way works.

Nice, it looks good.

I cannot comment on leaching, but most people use the Fusion to back the back (outside) of the tank. In theory it should be fine once it was dry. I'd be concerned about it breaking apart more than anything.

I think the most important question here is where did ~sp0ok~ get that Firefox theme?

Oh yeah, and that thin rock walls look surprisingly fantastic.

sorry to break the conversation but does anyone know of any threads on foam rock build on a center overflow? we just bought a 540gal 96l x36wx 38h tank with center overflow and are looking for ideas. all ideas are welcome!

Not sure if I've seen a straight center overflow (I'm assuming you mean freestanding, in the center of the tank overflow), but it should be easy from what I've read.

You could use 4 pieces of eggcrate to build a foam/rock wall "tower," though it might be easier to build the 4 walls separately.
