The "Joker" BTA ... purple/green tip.

Anemones for life
So, i was just browsing my usual websites..when i found this beauty...
i had no intentions of buying anything for awhile.. but for some reason.. this bta stuck with me, and i couldnt pass him up...

it had to me what appeared to be a deep..violet/blue oral dist.. with a bright red foot..with bright green tips..

this is a pic from the dealer...

was a little stressed out, so i had to talk to the owner before buying.. he assured me it was healthy, even sent me pictures of it back in the tank.. bubbled up. (he took it out and put it in container to get a picture)

right there..i was sold. purchased it last Tuesday Night.....(ordered shipped thursday for friday delivery)
3 long days later, it arrived here.. !!! i was not impressed, im sure Fedex MAN handled the package.. tracking showed it arrived at 3 different fedex hubs, not sure why so many.. ..

after putting it in its acclimation container (same thing i do with all my stuff, including my haddoni i did) original water, tub sits in tank to keep a steady temp, and i start doing Shot glass water changes.. taking old water out, putting new in, its worked well for me in the past.

after talking to the store, he told me to put it in the tank.. cause in my little thing i got going on its just getting its own toxins.. so having comfirmed ill get a refund it dies within 15 days.. i put it in.., it attached to a rock rather quickly, but looked like Crapppola

well if it splits then good you got Two for the price of one . I hope it works out for you . I would love to own one just like the one you have . Any info on were i could get one

I've got two just like that one. They're very cool indeed. I got mine from a local club member, but I've never seen them for sale anywhere. Can I ask where you found yours?

I hope it is just splitting for you. Its a nice anemone, but not really uncommon. Its amazing what photoshop, lighting and a deflated anemone can do to the color. Unfortunately, when it expands and starts to feel good, it will be pretty ordinary except for the pink/red base, which you won't see because it will be in the rocks.

Its sad to see that BTAs are falling into the "give it a name and charge 6x the purchase price" craze.

i gave it that name.. haha the vendor didnt name it.. :P my gf names everything in the tank.. as long as she's happy i can keep getting stuff :)
and this was fairly cheap... cheaper then 80.00 :P i see alot of common RBTA's sell for more then 80 at stores... but i know you can get them from local reefers for cheaper.

OK, but the first pic doesn't really represent what you got.
He are a couple pics of mine from about 6 years ago. I had it for about 5 years before I sold it.

The red of the base was much deeper in person. The first pic is with it deflated. the second is inflated. The purple and green tend to blend into different shade of brown when the anemone is fully expanded.

I like it...!!!
so much so that if it does split and you want to find it a new home, I'd be happy to adopt it from you Robbie!

just a small update... been going back and forth with the online store...
he claims this BTA is healthy and everythings fine with it, but
its been looking like crap almost the whole time, deflated, mouth gaping... and kinda beating around the bush for a refund on it..

Would you guys label this BTA a goner? ... cause the store is trying to tell me its going to be fine.

He's trying to tell me its a flow issue...

honestly i dont think that looks too good. too bad. looked like a sweet nem. im pretty cautious about nems in general. if it starts to detach and flip over im really quick to move it out of my tank.

I was also having same issue like u that my RBTA was super stressed out like that after splitting. It was going to split one more time as i noticed there was a tear in its middle. The RBTA clone was fine and so was other corals in the tank. So, I decided to do a 10% water change, add coral vital and reef food. Now it is recovering.

I don't think 4 days is a true attempt at letting it settle into your tank. dial the flow back and let it find a good rock hold for it's foot and ramp up the pumps. You can disconnect a few PH's if your not running adjustable pumps too.

I've moved quite a few BTA's from the West Coast to the East Coast in my luggage when I was travling out West for biz. I hit up all the shops you know about in the Bay Area/Sac/Lodi and such. Jammed the BTA's in deli containers and double-bagged them. These were then put in lunch bag coolers for the flight home. I had a few that looked BAD with nearly a full split occurring b/c of the poor water quality. Within a few weeks, they fully recovered. I won't say that all BTA's are bullet-proof, but they are fairly resilient and given time heal nicely. Keep it fed and keep a close watch on it and it should be fine.

see thats another thing, is idk if i should feed it.. the other night it was gaping tis mouth prettty badly, just pouring out this brown stringy goo (im pretty sure its just normal nem poo) but never had seen so much as one time..

so if its mouth is gaping almost all the time when should i feed it like you say?
i was always under the impression to not feed em when stressed.

it also has not split yet... but still definantly shows 2 sets of sihponglyphs and the random tear under its mouth... but has not split yet..
