also, unlike other skimmers, you don't need to take this thing out to clean at all. Just use the external poop dispenser. I've had the svs3 24in in my other tank for almost a year now. Haven't taken it out for maintenance at all. Only time I tinker with it is switching the pump. You will be fine with a 30in.

Haven't removed the collection cup? just drained from it? Any neck cleaning? I saw someone had a swabbie on a really tall LR.

I would check with Jeff to make sure you have enough height even with the shorter cup. One word of advice: if you get the shorter cup ask him to make you an oversized one (larger diameter). Otherwise you will find yourself constantly emptying the cup.

Yeah, I clean mine weekly as well, it does seem to help the performance.

Can any of you guys running a 30" and mazzei combo tell me how long that venturi is? I'm thinking about upgrading from the stock venturi.

Overall length;

Mazzei 978 = 9"
Mazzei 1078 - 9.25"

Okay, I know we've gone over this before, but I can't remember. What is different about the mazzei's compared to the stock venturi? What benefit does it have over the stock venturi?

Would the 30 be enough for a 260g sps dominated tank? I am having second thoughts now. I would get the 36 but that would be to tall. With my sump I measure right at 36 inches.

With a 36" stand go with the 30" skimmer. You do need an extra 2-3" to remove the cup from the neck due to the 2 piece design. You also have a strip of acrylic on the top of the cup's cover that serves as a handle.

I have a 42" stand and I have to remove the cup cover to remove the collection cup from my 36" skimmer.

You will be fine with the 30" for your system, with the skimmer being smaller if anything you will have less idle time

My understanding is the mazzei produces more bubbles for a given pump.
From Jeff's website:
"The Mazzei allows a larger volume of water to be pushed through the venturi thus drawing in more air and hence more bubbles."

The next sentence on his site says performance is increased "slightly" when used with the 36" and smaller skimmers.

Is the performance increase worth the money to get a mazzei? Probably not but I do like playing with this sort of stuff.

Thanks!

Took a quick peek. Looks like on bigbrand the 978 is available in Kynar and polypropylene. Big price difference, $30 less for the polypropylene.

Since I'm not mixing harsh chemicals just saltwater, I'm assuming the polypropylene version would be suitable for our purposes?
