I don't and my collection cup is always filled with bubbles. But they never build up to the top...

Here's a photo with about 75% the amount of bubbles I normally have. Just fed so the skimmer started to foam again about an hour ago.

After a very long hiatus from the home aquarium scene, now I finally have the time and space to build a new home tank, will start setting it up this month. The display thank is 400g + 140g sump, SPS dominated and off course lots of fish. Should I buy VS3-36 with updated Mazei or just go with VS3-48 ?? I know the bigger the better and the price difference is not that much, but I am not from The USA so the bigger and taller size of the VS3-48 will make the landed cost of the bigger model significantly higher, so if VS3-36 is more than enough for my system then I will go with the smaller model.... Suggestions please..

Thanks

I'd go with the 48.
I have the 30 on my 200g display with another 150g or so in system volume and I'm probably pushing it.
I don't think the Mazei makes much difference from what I've seen.

I've been running the SVS2-24 for about 6 years now with the mag 9.5 that came with it. I just upgraded the pump to the mag 12 and WOW, what a difference. Either my 9.5 was worn out or it just runs much better with the 12. After getting it dialed in, I'm filling up my cup to the top with pretty thick gunk in 3 days where it would take 2 weeks before. Major improvement.

I have been running my 24 on the mag12 as well and really like it. Put my new tank build on hold because I'm going out of country for two weeks. Can't wait to get back and get it setup. Will be running the skimmer on an iwaki 40rt.

Just joined the LifeReef club!

I'm in the process of setting up a new 60 gal cube and went with the SVS2-24. Jeff was great to work with and the skimmer arrived packed for shipment like nothing I've seen in some time.

The attached video was taken about 15 minutes after the skimmer was fired up for the first time and it was totally unadjusted with the outlet gate wide open. I bought this with the Mag 9.5 but it is running with a Waveline DC-6000 set around 3/4 power. Right now the tank has cycled and only has about 60 lbs of cured live rock and a handful of snails. I can't wait to see how this does once I start stocking the tank and bringing the bio load up.

Hey all, so i've been having a problem with my Mag pump.
Sometimes it won't restart after being shut down. Not sure if it's a problem with this particular pump or if I'm experiencing something that would happen with any pump. But the problem happens very inconsistently. I don't know if it's getting air locked or something, or just being grumpy. I have to disconnect the union, and then bang the pump around to get it going. I've already cleaned it multiple times to no avail.
Do I just need a new pump? It's only 18 months old.

Still running the 30" body with jebao dc9000 for close to two months now. I see no reason to switch it to the mag18 other than curiosity. It's been pulling about 40 oz. (nearly filling the standard collection cup) of dark tea colored skimmate out once a week on a lightly stocked 135g. Love this skimmer.

Running a VS2-24 on a 150G display/180G total volume. Runs like a champ with the included mag 9.5 but I'm about to switch that out to a 50PX-X. I just don't really like submersible pumps.

I believe there is a 2 year warranty. May want to contact danner.

Dennis,

A Mag Drive pump shouldn't do that. The ones I've run are pretty hardy, I've got one that I use for mixing saltwater that's been pretty badly abused for 5 years and it never fails to start.

The warranty on the 12s and 18s is 1 year impeller, 5 years motor. As rEeFnWrX suggested above, I'd contact Danner.

I just converted from a contemporary skimmer to a tried and true venturi like I had 18 years ago from LifeReef.com. I forgot how well those skimmers performed and how easy they are to maintain. Jeff is a terrific person to work with if you have any questions or need recommendations. I have a SVS3-24 driven by a Sicce Silent Synca 5 on my 160ish gallon system. Jeff's design makes the skimmer very quiet. The only issue I have is vibration noise from the pump connected with vinyl tubing to the skimmer. I am going to replace that short piece of tubing with a silicone tube from BRS. Thanks Dennis (d2mini) for turning me on to lifereef!
