The Life Reef Skimmer Club

you may want to got to Dennis's build thread here on R/C. You can see pictures of both skimmers.

the Alpha skimmer actually remove more skimmate? I am interested in trying out my first ever non pinwheel skimmer... but... it has to do more than my current functioning pinwheel can. Lifereef or maybe the new bubble king dc150 is my current decision.

I have a BK Double Cone 150 that was only used for a few months if you are interested. Perfect condition.

tempting offer, but, I really am interested in the new controllable pump bubble king is developing for this model.

Now for the life reef, I would be getting an SVS3-24. most likely just stick with the magdrive 9.5. does anyone have air draw numbers on this combo? just for comparative purposes vs my current skimmers.

Your better off with the LR than the BK. Why do you think I'm selling mine?

Also to compare air draw from skimmer to skimmer is meaningless. It is all about the balance of the air, the body, the neck. A lot of air means nothing if everything else is not in balance. To say skimmer A puts flows 1000 and skimmer B flows 800 is meaningless by itself.

Buy a skimmer where you look at the performance and make a decision based on that. Taking it apart and looking at the air, the pump, the neck and compare from skimmer to skimmer is just an exercise in mental masturbation.

I trust you may be correct about the life reef being the way to go...
i'm still curious on the air draw though.

The air draw is dependent on the pump as it is the same venturi on the models. The more water you push through the venturi, the more air will get sucked in.

How loud is the suction on the Venturi with it tied back to the collection cup? I'm seriously considering the 36" or possibly the 48" to replace my Euro-Reef, but I don't want it to be loud inside the house.

Thanks,
Leland

I find it hardly noticeable with my stand doors open, and inaudible with the doors closed. Assuming yours would be outside the stand in the room, unless you have a super quiet tank I doubt you'd notice it.

Anyone running a jebao DC6000 on the 24" body? I'm strongly considering that.

The only thing holding me back at the moment is a cramped sump. I have about 11" x 11" of space to work with. Jeff has been very helpful thus far and I think we may be able to squeeze the skimmer in.

I've been using a 30" Lifereef skimmer with an 8" collection cup for about a year now. Only recently did I have a hiccup that turned out to be a venturi clogged with 4 small cerith snails. Once cleared, it's skimmate production was impeccable once again...an easy fix...thanks to Jeff's email correspondence--I'm amazed he takes the time to treat one guy like me so courteously and promptly via emails. It's a helluva skimmer!

Finally did it. Let us know how it compares with the SRO. Which model SRO are you running?

SRO 5000INT w/2 neck extensions. I have the semi cone model

I am thinking of going with either a Fluval SP4/6 pump, or a Laguna Max Flo to feed the skimmer. I am expecting to have about 5ft of head

Hello! How can I convert a Red Sea Prizm skimmer 400 to a 300 liter aquarium to function well and be quiet? Ideas?

Hi, welcome to RC! :)
Please start a new thread for your question. This thread is specifically for LifeReef skimmers.
