The Life Reef Skimmer Club

I know it's about the life reef skimmer but honestly anyone who wants a refugium should look into his set up. It's as well designed as anything I've ever seen. No deitrus whatsoever. Just plain awesome.

Yes, been more than two years, but it's my two cents.

Which model life reef? I don't see this needle pump working with any lifereef skimmer (I don't think it could even handle the 24"). I don't think this pump could handle the head pressure that it would take to get this to work. I sure would like to see some pictures of this.

Please advise if you think something wrong :)

you guys experience any crazy temperature increase using the blueline?

i set up with the new sump and jeff sent me the 2xblueline for return and for skimmer but temperature will not get below 80 degrees. I have 3 fans and office temperature stays at 79 degrees. Don't believe anything else is keeping the heat up. radions and vortechs. really starting to believe the pumps jeff recommend are crap. same thing he did when he recommended me the mag 9.5. better ac pumps out there.

also sump/skimmer set up is external return/external skimmer with no enclosed cabinet. plenty of air circulation.

my svs3-30 has the sp4 pump and I have no issues of keeping the temperature at 78

i figure going with an external pump like the blueline, my svs24 won't have an issue either. really going to suck to spend money on a new return and skimmer pump because of this. jeff really suckered punch me on this for sure.

fwiw, full water volume is about 90g with refugium/sump and display but jeff already knew that.

No temp swings here. I am using the Panworld 50PX (same as the blueline 30HD) on a 36" and my temp is 78 - 78.6 depending on the time of day. I do not use any fans to cool my water.

Will take return and skimmer offline and see what temperature will be like. Can confirm when I took skimmer off line a couple days ago temperature stay steady 78-79

You say office temp stays at 79. If that's true your tank is almost at room temp. Why would it go lower? Your pumps will always add a little heat. But at that room temp maintaining 80 is actually good.

the issue is it needs the FANS on to maintain at 80.

without any fans, it'll go up to 82-83. Yes I understand 80 isn't bad, but it shouldn't be that way given that I have 3 6in fans circulating air underneath the counter.

by default your tank would be at 79 since that is the ambient temp. Any pump, power head, light, ect is going to add even a minimal amount of heat so I am not at all shocked you need fans to maintain 80 degrees...

alright pictures didn't load up properly. disagree completely. without fans and room temperature at 79, I see swings up to 83-84. adding fans, I got down to 80.6-81.

dropping my office temperature down to 77, I see it maintaining 79-80.

plenty of space to work with since it's not in a cabinet. doubt it's a lack of air circulation issue. I don't have the splash guard on. When I did, temperature went up to 85 I kid not.
