er to clarify something there is a possible confusion earlier in the thread, Piper listed the lighting at 11.5 years running all the time (24/7). obviously all the leds are not running all the time, so it "should" last longer, but to solidify a lifetime to work with rather than just continuing to run with 11.5 years, piper what is the lighting schedule roughly? id imagine it would probably go 15 or so if not a bit more.
i saw these lights at Imac 06. did alot of talking with the reps and BobF and Anthony C abou them while we were hanging out at the WWm booth,
because the tanks they used were prolly (guesstimating it was a frag tank setup) 12" deep. the tanks had pfo on one side and a basic (not a high end) reflector. so the equal to a 250 might be true, but im leery as well because their use of a polished 3 or 6 flat area reflector on the 250w MH instead of a reefoptics or lumenarc
also the PFO unit on display there did not have the same luxeon LEDS as far as i can remember (there were alot of smaller leds it looked like, though it has been 7 months so im not 100% on that) so while i thought it was great, i was concerned as well with penetration.
Piper Thanks for posting and updating us on this and being one of the guienea pigs.
If you can, can you borrow a PAR meter and measure the lighting at the top, the middle and the bottom. Im unsure if you have one locally in a reef club, but Im sure in the interest of science someone here could come check it for you or loan you one. Even if the corals are reacting and looking good, a PAR reading goes along way to settlign the concerns alot feel about penetration.
I was working on getting quite a few luxeon leds through the PC hardware site i run, but at the time, the demand for the LED was too high to meet a fairly small order (few hundred) and still be cost effective
I may have to try again and see what happens.
thx again for keeping us updated, im subscribed to the thread
