The Light has arrived!!!!!!!!!!!!

Okay don't know if this is a good sign or not.... The anemone that I got from Lana at the last meeting has moved. It climbed off it's rock (want your rock back Lana?) all the way to the bottom of the tank and UNDER a rock ledge!!!!! The good thing is that it was down next to where my Cinnamon clown has been hanging out and it immediately started hosting in it.

Yes Lana and I would like the rock back if you don't want or need it. When we first got the anemone it moved around the tank a little til it got it's foot in the shade and the rest of itself in the light. After it settled in the foot never left that rock but the body would go from the front side of the rock to the back side of the rock and back every once in a while.

No problem happy to let you have the rock back. I work in Cross Lanes so I could take it by the shop or whatever.

I'll let you know when I drop it off. I'm gonna try tomorrow.

Well my little Cinnamon is turning in to one over protective little clown. I attempted to feed the anemone tonight with a krill. I got the krill in the anemone and the anemone had it all but in its mouth when the clown decided she didn't like the fact that I was feeding the anemone and pulled the krill out and dropped it on the bottom of the tank!

So should I worry about trying to feed it any more or just let the clown bring it food since it would appear that she doesn't like interlopers touching her anemone?

Clowns will do this, they think they are helping by cleaning out their home (the anemone). Eventually though they begin to take food to the creature either out of storage concerns or actually taking care of the anemone no one really knows. I suggest just feed your clown, eventually the anemone will get food.

Hmm that said then how come I have zoa's that were on a small rock setting on a reef bone and they are now down on the reef bones several inches away from the rock they were on?

Yeah that's the weird part they were attached to the small rock one day and the next they were and they are attached to the reef bone just like they moved there.

Thought I'd post some new pics of the tank.

Devils hand leather.

Bubble tip with the Cinnamon in it.

Just an update... Clam is doing good. Hammer is fine. Bubble tip has about doubled in size from what it was when I got it as well as the finger leather. Will try and get some new pics tomorrow.

er to clarify something there is a possible confusion earlier in the thread, Piper listed the lighting at 11.5 years running all the time (24/7). obviously all the leds are not running all the time, so it "should" last longer, but to solidify a lifetime to work with rather than just continuing to run with 11.5 years, piper what is the lighting schedule roughly? id imagine it would probably go 15 or so if not a bit more.

i saw these lights at Imac 06. did alot of talking with the reps and BobF and Anthony C abou them while we were hanging out at the WWm booth,

because the tanks they used were prolly (guesstimating it was a frag tank setup) 12" deep. the tanks had pfo on one side and a basic (not a high end) reflector. so the equal to a 250 might be true, but im leery as well because their use of a polished 3 or 6 flat area reflector on the 250w MH instead of a reefoptics or lumenarc

also the PFO unit on display there did not have the same luxeon LEDS as far as i can remember (there were alot of smaller leds it looked like, though it has been 7 months so im not 100% on that) so while i thought it was great, i was concerned as well with penetration.

Piper Thanks for posting and updating us on this and being one of the guienea pigs.

If you can, can you borrow a PAR meter and measure the lighting at the top, the middle and the bottom. Im unsure if you have one locally in a reef club, but Im sure in the interest of science someone here could come check it for you or loan you one. Even if the corals are reacting and looking good, a PAR reading goes along way to settlign the concerns alot feel about penetration.

I was working on getting quite a few luxeon leds through the PC hardware site i run, but at the time, the demand for the LED was too high to meet a fairly small order (few hundred) and still be cost effective

I may have to try again and see what happens.

thx again for keeping us updated, im subscribed to the thread

Some updated pics of animals in the tank.

Anemone (it's pulled back in the rocks normally much larger) with Tomato

The anemone and leather decided to come out today so I snapped some more.

Here's the anemone all the way out xenia are on the rock under the netting. They just went in yesterday

The Devils hand leather and some zoas there on the side

And here's a shot of my 4 legged starfish

Okay I have a mystery on my hands. Something yesterday afternoon went after my starfish. It now as of this morning only has 2 legs and will probably not survive. Two of the starfish legs were basicly ripped off. I have no idea what it was and what ever it is has had to been in the tank in some form since the last swap in......was it October? Nothing else in the tank has been bothered and this starfish has been in the tank since the first part of December. Any Ideas folks?
