The Moorish Idol Thread

When I said 60 I mean I have a cubical system that I get them to eat and raise then and I'm trying to breed them

But put them straight in to the display tank

Are you saying MI should not be quarantined? Why? Are they immune to disease?
Not immune to disease. However the moving between tanks (from catch to transport to wholesaler to lfs to qt to dt) can definitely stress these fish out.

I forget which link I read it off of, however qt was discouraged due to potential stress it can induce on these fragile fish.

They are very ick prone and very susceptible to velvet. I don't have the patient to do 72 days fallow again but any fish that I have, I try to qt 2 weeks for velvet unless I know that the fish is on copper for 2 weeks. Ick can be manage but velvet can't . It will be too reckless not to qt this fish.

FWIW; I QT'd my MI for 6 weeks and it did just fine. 2 rounds of Prazipro, followed by 4 weeks of Chloroquine phosphate.

Day 5 (or is it 6? I forget) update

MI has taken a liking to acans and some sps. Oh well. But it's still alive and eating pellets with gusto. Also saw it sample some frozen before spitting it out

Question for all the MI veterans here:

My MI has taken a liking to my acans and some SPS; is there a way to decrease their coral appetite? Would I need to increase feedings? Currently I'm feeding pellets 3x a day.

IMO its nearly impossible to keep a pair of MI in a reeftank. There were many reefers trying to keep them as a pair and almost all of them had no success. I keep a single one since 3years with no problems. He is healthy and eats like a pig.. He just munched all my zoas but didnt touch any other corals yet.

But you have to feed minimum 3 times a day. Its better to feed them like 5-6 times a day.

Ok this is the moorish idol man,
IF I WERE YOU DO NOT QUARANTINE THEM OF THEY START EARING IN THE QT TANK THEY WILL GET STRESSED OUT DURING THE MOVE TO THE SHOW TANK TRUST ME I EXPERIMENT WITH THIS FISH I HAVE A 720 GALLON SYSTEM WITH 60 MOORISH IDOLS
SO PLEASE DONT DO THAT THANKYOU

what are you saying? don't quarantine? get them to eat first? don't do the tank transfer method? you have 60 MI in a 720g tank?

You are very patient I can't don't have the same discipline. My friends are doing it but 72 days is mighty long time to be fallow.

i have to be. i lost too many fish due to ich. i had enough!

i am quite worried right now, the fish don't look very healthy. especially the pyramid. he has a what looks like a bruised area about the size of a dime on his side.
