the new " big build"

I have not been on the site in a while. Holy crap, this is awsome!!!!!!!!!!!! I am so jealous right now. The solar tubes look sweet. Well done on this build!!

That's really cool. Wonder if it will fluoresce corals like actinic lighting.
not exactly sure what the question is but we already know that sunlight doesn't fluoresce corals like actinic light.

The coral greenhouses I've been to had to supplement sunlight with artificial light to keep corals healthy- with a marked increase of growth in the summer months because sunshine is more intense and duration is longer.
IMO it would be interesting to see what can survive "solartube only" lighting.
It certainly could be used for a deepwater reef but would still likely require some addtional blue lighting.

There are several tanks I've researched and they have successfully kept SPS with no trouble.. so in my case with gorgs, zoas, and softies I should have sufficient lighting .to keep them healthy and thriving .. IMO

I thought you were going to have some type of supplemental blue lighting

Sands in !!!! No rinse just dumped in, I want to keep the dust and sediment in the system, it helps buffer and filter more so then rinsing. IME

Almost settled out, but going to hold off one more day before transferring the other tank, nut I was at least able to get the living room painted ..

Haven't done much reading on these solar tubes and wasn't sure how the filters work on wavelength and coral colors. I know they block certain things in order to achieve their end result, but was unsure if it was possible to get a light that could make corals "glow". Just saw the picture that seemed to resemble atinic lighting and was curious.

Randy, I'm not using the Diffusers that come with the tubes, they block UV.. I have Plexiglas lenses with a coating on them to change colors and light spread without blocking any UV rays.. only time and experimentation will be the true answer..

Sunlight is very "warm" : 5500k
Hold a coral under the sun and look at it in sunlight.
Maybe the blue that some people are seeing as sunlight in your pix is the blue epoxy, trop?

200+ pounds of rock in and several fish, things are doing great. Picks tomorrow and a run down on what I have in this beast for anyone that thinks it cost a ton... I can tell you right now it cost LESS then a 120 setup with a stand.. new. !!!
