The Official Hurricane Irene Thread

I have a battery powered air pump that uses 2 D batteries. Luckily I had 2 because like someone else said they are all sold out of C and D around here. I'm hoping this air pump will be enough PLUS we bought an inverter that runs on the car. I figured I could run the main pump in the tank for awhile.

What would everyone suggest? Maybe run the pump 15 minutes every hour? I'm praying we don't lose power. I'm in Unionville (same as Farmington) and in the 2 years I have been here I haven't lost power but haven't had a storm like this yet.

I would really hate to lose my fish. 2 snowcasso's and a lineatus wrasse. Those 2 fish alone are worth an unmentionable amount of $$.

Edit: I mean 3 fish ;)

Power went out for me around 5-5:30. Winds are picking up quite a bit right now. Keeps going from light to dark. Generator so far is going well, but the emergency delivery of propane that I requested (with a $125 fee) never showed up. Hopefully we make it to Monday when they said our regular delivery will show up, if they can get here.

Best of luck everyone. BE SAFE!!!

Power went out around 3:30 am and TG that I finally finished putting together the invertor & AGM Marine battery at 2 am last night. Ive had it since June but kept telling myself that Wallingford & this condo complex never looses power. Power came back on about 6:30 am.

Wow. I feel lucky. So far I still have power but the wind and rain right now is pretty crazy. Im guessing the power will go out here also because it keeps flickering like its gonna go out, but so far so good. I have my generator on stand by just in case, but I would obviously rather not use it if I don't have to.
Good luck to all, and keep us posted on the power situation in your areas.

Good news in milford is the rain is letting up. Bad news is lost power at5:30 and doubt I'll see it again anytime soon. Winds are strong. Tree down in street and took out pole. No way out. Neighbors had two trees fall on their house. I consider myself lucky so far. Will be starting generator after eye passes. Tank is on battery air pumps for the time being.

Good luck!

Never lost power, but took my AC out because of the winds and brought my tank from 78 to 83. Guess I cant really complain though. Didnt seem to rough in New Britain.

Surprisingly I still have power. I'm in Naugatuck and I lose power all the time with regular thunder storms but a lot of people around here don't have power. A tree and a few large branches went down next to the house, been lucky so far.

So far Thompson still has power. It has flickered a few times. But Putnam and Killingly have no power. Not sure about Woodstock. Good luck to Icycoral and Pallobi.

I spoke too soon, I lost power about an hour ago and a good sized tree hit the house. It's not too bad but it sure scared the heck out of everyone.

I've been out of power since 11am. Gonna fire up the generator soon. I was smart to turn off the AC last night. Temp still 80.2, one less thing to worry about.

That sucks! I hope it didn't do too much damage. I guess that what home owners insurance is for though, right. I wish you luck for the rest of the storm.
