the "perfect" skimmer

i need some advice. im looking to upgrade my skimmer, but i have some specifics. due to the small size of my sump (due to the location of the tank and other setbacks, i cannot upgrade it), it cannot be an in-sump model. i also want to limit the amount of pumps i would need. the skimmer should be designed so that the skimmed water can be directed back to the display tank. thus, i would only have one pump serving for two roles. or, if this cannot be found, i would like a skimmer with a rather small (but powerful) pump. i would like a model that is known to work and reliable (one you would recommend to a good friend). my sump is located slighly less than five feet from the top of my tank, which is a 72 gal bowfront. Ideally, im trying to keep it in the $250-300 range. thank you all for your help, please let me know if you need additional info.
