The Poor Man's "Elos" SPS Build. :)

I look forward to getting my tank into shape. My corals are still not looking well although everything checks out and is pretty stable. Enough about me though this is your thread! I just thought you might like to see the new skimmer. :)

Chris, excellent build thread of your tank.
Your corals are amazing and the photography skill is also very good.

I am excited to see how the tank evolves with the changes you´ve made so pictures are requested. :)

Keep us posted.

Regards,
André

Wow, I just read the whole thread. Shocking!

I still can't believe how much you feed your tank daily!!! Do you credit this for the extraordinary coloration? Obviously the support equipment is nessesary to support such feeding, but the "new nutrients" not "old nutrients" in your tank must be off the charts.

Why did you change your TEK light out?

I'm just starting the Prodibio, I hope I can come close. Great looking tank!

Sorry, I confused you with another member. So you're still running the TEK T5 fixture? How do you like it? I'm weighing out the added cost of ATI vs the TEK.

I have some TEK light fixtures I bought even after I was warned about them and now regret it. I would go with the ATI if you want T5's.

Hopefully Chris doesnt mind, but I was running the TEK for about 4week and it works okay. Now that I got the ATI PM i can see why people say to go with the ATI. Its so much brighter and adds no heat what so ever to the tank. If you ask me the cost between the two is well worth it. Now you could also look into the Aquatinic's Constellation (same as SunnyX)

Thanks guys. I looked at the Aquatinic's fixture but it only has 7 bulbs. Would that work on a 48x24x24 SPS only tank? I haven't read anything on them yet.

what did you use for a "mat" between your stand and tank? i need to use something you can't really see because the surface will be flat so i'm looking for ideas. thanks btw do you get water on the floor when using a magnet to clean the glass? what is the height of your waterline below the rim? thanks

I run the 7 bulb Aquactinic Constellation fixture and it works great. Check it out on my site: www.RimlessReef.com

Thanks Sunny.

I did end up buying the ATI fixture, but your tank has been a part of my inspiration to go T5.

I guess this isn't off topic since my tank dimensions are almost the same, but how high are you guys running the T5s off the top of the tank?

I will be using an 8x54w on two Icecap 660s and was hoping to have the lights at least a foot off the top of the tank.

It's going to be a floating canopy built into the wall so I have to set the height right from the start, I can't really play with it much.

CeeGee - Thanks bro!

Andre - Appreciate the compliments. I'll have some updated pics soon.

Cham - Welcome! I have recently cut the feeding back to about 3 cubes since my bio-load is much smaller. I'll be adding more fish very soon though and will be back to 5-6 per day. I think that this does help color. I changed out the lighting just to experiment. So far so good, but I do miss the shimmer lines of the MH. Congrats on the Ati.

Ecfencing - Nope. Still using T5s at the moment.

FiReBReTHa - Thanks bro! Your tank is nice. I look forward to seeing the progress.

OlDude - Why so. I'm pretty happy with mine. Just the right amount of light.

Mario - I do agree on the PM being much brighter. I have a TON of LPS and I was a bit worried that They would get bleached out. I also am still experimenting with the T5s. Still not sold on the yet, so I may not be buying a PM.

Reefsahoy - I used 1/2" foam. It' still visible, but I am planning to get some more vinyl and place it across the front and sides to hide it.

Dave - Sorry but you guys know I don't like posting mediocre pics. The tank isn't ready yet. Soon though bro!

Broke - Mine is about 10" off the surface. I plan to eventually run it at about 4". I'm still acclimating the corals. Really just the LPS.

Thanks. I'm torn on the T5s, just because so many seem to run them right on the top of the tank. I may still try it just because I have everything laying around. This tank will be just SPS, do you think they need to be down that low even with the shorter tank?

A couple pics!!!!
