The Reef Central Corner Club Thread

Hey everyone, finally have some free time to sit down and check out everyones awesome aquariums. I've been reading and catching up on this thread and learned a lot. Here's a few shots of my 92. After seeing several of these I feel inadequate.

Haha thanks. That is Hannah. She loves the nemo movie and that's what got me started a year ago. I started with a 28 gallon nano cube with some clown fish. Now I find myself wanting bigger and bigger

Glad to have discovered this thread. Upgrading from a 29G to a 92G corner. It's gonna be different and challenging! Just ordered 40 pounds of BRS Reefsaver rock and will add the live rock in my 29G. along with the sand. Can't wait to get the ball rolling!

how many here have a FOWLR in their 54G? I had to downgrade from my 54 corner because we will be moving and $$. But I'm going to set it up for my aunt as a FOWLR and I'm looking for some inspiration!

Hi everyone, I posted here before so thought I would come in and check out whats going on in the corner bow front world. I have a 54 g corner bow front with a aquafuge refugium hang on unit with skimmer on the side that holds about 8 gallons with some live rock and chaeto in it. About 80 pounds of live rock. I was using a 20 inch Current Nova Extreme Pro unit with 6 lamps and just last week purchased a Kessil A150W Ocean Blue. I thought that with the dimesions of the corner bow front and the smaller footprint I'd try it out and got one. Wow, what a nice difference in my tank. Just love the serene blue of the light and the shimmer is awesome. The Ocean Blue is pretty blue but the light is deceivingly intense. I have frogspawn, zoas, shrooms, polyps, an open brain, and a very nice goniopora as the centerpiece up high under the kessil in my horse shoe shaped rock arrangement. Everything is doing very well and is open and thriving, even my carpet anenome that is positioned nicely at the bottom. It is quite surprising especially when I saw the light at first on in my tank. Its such a different kind of light and you think no way it's intense enough. Just love it so far. Ideally two is probably the trick but I just love the look with one so far. Just thought I'd pass it on. It seems to be an impressive light and the look is nice being so small and not having all that clutter over the tank like I had with the Current. Fish also look awesome. Rich deep colors especially the clowns. I'l have to try and get a few pics posted. I think with the dimesions of our tanks the kessil is a great fit. I know with a long tank you need more lights but with the pie shape it really fills it up pretty nice.

I guess not :(

Hello The_Codfather -

Did you ever try drilling the side of your Oceanic 92?

I am expanding from a Herbie to a beananimal overflow to get more flow but I have always been wary of exceeding the durso alone flow rate on a Herbie without the 3rd fail safe. That means I would need to drill the side on an Oceanic 92--hence, wondering if you met with success.

Let's get some pics on here. Here's mine as of today:

Different light intensities

What kind of light is that?

My 92 gallon corner is going to be torn down in the next 3 to 4 weeks. Got to overhaul the sump system underneath the tank, and more importantly...

get rid of the friggin hair algae and bubble algae that has consumed the tank!!! AARRGGGHHHHHH!!!

BUUUuuuuutttt.... i figure this is the perfect time to upgrade the flow inside the tank, switch to LED lighting and also change out the livestock :spin2:

Oh, how much of a difference is an mp40 compared to an mp10? is the increase in flow truly worth the price?

Here is my latest FTS.

Salsipuedes, I have been fighting GHA in my tank for over 2 years and recently have some success in dipping or applying hydrogen peroxide to the target spots. If you are going to take your tank down, make sure you look into using H2O2 to treat your rocks. The removal of GHA after H2O2 treatment is just amazing.

Hannahsreef, I saw your baby standing in front of the tank and I have a picture like that with my grand-daughter doing the same thing. LOL. She loves Dori and Nemo too.

Nice Simon! I have been using the peroxide for a few coral rubble pieces that have the beginnings of GHA. I even put some directly on a damaged spot of bird's nest that started growing algae.

I see you have some blue chromis. We are thinking of getting 5 of those as we need more motion in our tank and we like the idea of a school. I read about infighting and pecking orders etc. How have yours been and how often do you feed them? Do they swim together generally?

Windyridge, Thanks! I have those 4 chromis for almost 4 yrs. I bought them at the same time and they are the most active fish in my tank besides my Regal Blue Tang (Dori). I think the trick is to add them in at the same time and not one fish at a time. They do swim together and active all the time. They are hardy and easy to keep. I feed my fish once daily with Elos SV.M2 pellets. I used to feed them with frozen food but I stopped because of hair algae problem.

My birdnest was covered with GHA to the point they were smothering the coral. I finally had no choice but poured 50:50 3% H2O2 over it outside the tank about 10 days ago. The GHA are all gone but there are a lot of areas bleached because of the algae. You can see that in the picture.

Does the peroxide work for the bubble algae too???

And what are the steps you do to use peroxide safely? Make a dip for the coral, apply only to affected areas outside of the tank, dose the tank, etc... everywhere I read, someone says something different with most saying "don't do it, you'll kill everything" :eek1:

any advice would be much appreciated, my green birdsnest is also getting smothered now too!!
