The Reef Central Corner Club Thread

S kelley, nice tank, like the sump setup too,a lot of added water volume. What lighting do you have?

Right now its a 400 watt 20k Radium, with a lumenarc reflector, it sits about 8 inches or so above the water. good coverage all except the front corners but im gonna pack those with acans anyways.

My basement pump is a reeflow baracudda had to throttle it way back but plan on adding a frag tank and maybe another inline holding tank as well so eventually I will use all that extra power.

That reminds me, I am looking for help with a screen or egg crate type cover for my tank in the summer. I think my glass top will make it too hot when the cold weather goes away.

Have you considered the material used for floursencent lighting? Should be easy to cut

Powerhead size for 54G corner

Powerhead size for 54G corner

I am going to get two Hydor Koralia powerheads but I not sure what size I want. Two 750 or 550? The plan is to have it in the back corners of the tank attached to a wavemaker. I had two 1050 and it seem WAY too much. The fish seemed to strugglePlease help?

after experimenting in my own tank with a maxijet 1200 and a koralia 750, I think two 750 koralias should suffice since it will be alternating between the 2. My fish also seemed a bit blown about and it kicked up the sand as well when both pumps were on at the same time. Two 550 koralias should give decent flow, but to me it also depends on the wave patterns you will be running.

thats why I am saving up for an ecotech mp10
after I researched a bit and saw all the demos, and multiple other choices out there, it seems the best choice by far.

Thanks so much.... some other are suggesting 1050 or higher. But after experiencing the cyclone last night I am afraid to exchange these for he wrong powerhead. However the two suggestion are coming from some that seem to have it together.....so..... I don't know

Lots of very nice corner setups!

It appears as though corners work much better for the marine world than they do for FW cichlids.. I currently have a 46g corner unit (fluval velenzia) housing rift lake fish, but I am in the process of starting my first marine tank (40Long) so ya never know... maybe my 46g corner will be SW by this time next year.

Randy- very nice setup, looks great. A question for you: which reef bright did you go with? I am looking to supplement my current lighting. I currently have t5s, 2 white and 2 blues. I want to replace the blue with coral wave( pinks ) and add one or two reef bright XHO.

What does every one think about this?

very nice, I too am wonderin which reefbrites u went with.

I've been weighing the pros and cons of going with LED & also cheap vs expensive... diy vs premade, cree vs bridgelux, etc, etc, etc... so far I'm leaning towards keeping my 175watt mh 14k iwasaki par monster and getting rid of my t5 bulbs for LEDS.

by any chance can u post pics of just the reefbrites on and one with just your metal halide? It would def help for me to make up my mind prior to biting the bullet :D

Need some advice for my corner reef tank

Need some advice for my corner reef tank

Hi Corner club!!!
I'm confused and need some help choosing the best option for my tank... I have a 54g corner reef and have like 15 frags of sps, lots of lps, and some softies... Never dose my tank before because the salt was giving me what I need until the sps start to grow...

The water parameters:
Salt: 1.026
Cal: 380ppm
Alk: 5.8ppm
Mag: 1200ppm
Nitrate: 0ppm
PO4: 0ppm
Ph: 8.32

Ok, here start my problem...
I want to know wich would be the best choice for my tank (because I don't want to be dosing manually)...
1- Bubble magus dosing pump (in BRS for $300)
2- kalkwasser Reactor (in BRS the aquamedic kalkwasser for $240)(I have a tunze ATO to connected)
3- calcium reactor (I want a GEO, but can take any suggestions)

I really need the opinion in wich and why???

Thanks again,
Omar

Hi-Omie, before deciding on that what salt are you using? a quality reef salt may ensure you only need to dose calcium occassionally, at the moment your params are out of sync, once you get them in sync and use a quality salt you will find it easy to maintain water quality.

I use red sea coral pro salt...
My parameters were find untill my sps start growing...
I never dose before, so will be the first time doing it

look beautiful, I would think dosing with kalk to keep the calcium up should be adequate, I don't like calcium reactors, I got one myself and it is a timebomb for the tank IMO, it needs to be monitored constantly due to the C02 and I found kalk much easier to cope with long term, have you looked at the balling method?
