The Reef Central Corner Club Thread

I also painted all the pipes with purple PVC primer and some how, once in the water, they match perfectly with the blue background.
Which, by the way, is the only thing I would change to black, instead of blue. It will make all the inhabitants the center of attention and will help "camouflage" the black bulkheads.

I've always preferred the dark blue background. The black is nice and elegant, and hides equipment better, but it also looks like the back wall to a small aquarium. The dark blue just makes me feel like I'm looking into a small part of something bigger. That's why I went with a corner in the first place, it doesn't look like rock piled against a wall. It has depth and you can really play with the aquascape to give it a deeper feel.

Does anyone know of a way to paint a preskimmer for an Aqua C Remora? Mine is black and takes up about half of one of my walls. My walls are dark blue, and I'd like to paint this gigantic box blue as well. I know Krylon Fusion works on glass and plastic, but this would go INSIDE the tank and that scares me.

If you used any automotive quality clear coat over your blue paint it would be fine in your tank, but you have to give it a long time to fully cure (a few weeks!) I would think that any water based spray paint with a water based clear would be okay to use, but i've never tried it personally

Boret, an excellent build and great stuff with the closed loop. Well done! I wish that I'd set up more than the single output on my closed loop system. As it is now, the flow goes at an angle against the face which creates turbulence when the sea swirl on my system return completes it's rotation. Multiple returns on the closed loop would have enhanced this dramatically.

Thanks gawf4fun!!

I actually planned for a long time, here are some of my initial design ideas:

All of them involved too many holes in the glass and I was concerned about the integrity. By routing the pvc line through the back corner I eliminated the need for so many holes.

From every rock design I had seen, everyone placed high rock columns in the back corner. RR tanks even have the whole black overflow box going on there, so four 3/4" PVC pipes wouldn't take that much space. Plus it gave me the flexibility to place the outputs wherever I wanted.

I went in this direction because I got a great deal on an Oceans Motions 4. That is an expensive piece if you have to buy it. I could have done just two outputs for the CL with a SCWD wave maker.

I also wanted Close Loop because with a close canopy, heat IS an issue and I wanted to eliminate as many sources of heat from the water as possible.

I am still trying to figure out if I have indeed eliminated heat sources or not. The highest temp I reach in the water is 79.5 and 90 in the canopy. I am not thrilled about the 79.5, I like to keep it constant at 78, but it is not horrible.

Wow 3 days and no ones wrote on this thread? Usually there's about 10 new posts i need to read through before i have a chance to check my favorite place on RC. I've just been offered some overtime at work, which coming off of a 3 month layoff is excelent and hopefully i can use some of the extra money to get my tank a little more built up. I just added 2 frags; a 4" Orange Monti Digi and 2 1" Pink Monti Digi. The orange is looking a tad brown at the moment, but i think once it gets used to the new angle of lighting its true colors will shine. The Pink Digi frags are insanely bright! I'll try to post some pics soon.

LOL! Nope... another non-lifer hangin' around in Texas. :)

I added some frags to my tank tonight. :)

Here's some updated pictures of my tank, too.

Looking good flip. What is the frag in the back, kinda lavender? It looks pretty cool. I'll check your response tomorrow as my pillow is calling my name.

Thanks bro!

The guy that gave it to me said it's a purple birdsnest. I stated that it looked like a pink birdsnest, and he said that it's actually a purple one and kind-of rare (don't know much about all of that, but I love the way it looks). I didn't get a chance to see it before he put it in the bag, but when I put it in my tank it woke right up! :)

Definitely, Eddie! The guy that gave it to me just requested that I give him a frag of it, if/when it grows out. That's the least I can do, right? :D (Love this hobby!)

On another note, I'm getting five more frags tonight. Can't wait!

Just got some newer pics of some of my stuff. All these pics are under 250watt 20k XM, 24watt 460nm UV T-5, 24watt 420nm UV, and 8watts Blue LED. (the algae outbreak is being taken care of soon by a Powder Brown Tang:

oopsy! Man i feel like an idiot! I'll try to get them on a little bit smaller. Sorry i screwed this page for anyone without road runner!

They canopy for our AGA92 has been built and the CoralVue Lumen Bright Wide Mini will be here next week.

Picture of the canopy during construction:

I would like to add two 24" bulbs (T5, VHO T8, whatever), one on each side of the tank.

The LFS I frequent has the Hagen GLO T5 High Output system but they don't seem to come with individual reflectors, only dual reflectors which will not meet my needs.

Now I could run those bulbs without reflectors but I would prefer not to "waste" that much light.

Anyone have any suggestions on a solution that would meet my design requirements? :)

ok here are some easier to view pics of the stuff before. Sorry for the earlier screw up!
