The T5 Q&a Thread - split

Anyone know what the general par value for a pair if t5 approx 10" above tank and 6" below waterline? Using as a supplement to led and wondering what it brings to table

Depends on bulbs, ballasts, reflectors and cooling. If any of those are lacking, it's not bringing a ton of PAR but can bring much needed spectrum still

Is there a 'dark blue' T5 available?
Not a pure actinic bulb, but something like an ATI blue plus with less power in the green and turquoise spectrum.

GIESEMANN / actinic-blue should fit. Almost a B+ with a bit less green and more violet.

I will look into the KZ tube. I have also read great things about Fauna Marin's Ultra Royal Blue, but I have a hard time finding a supplier.

I've tried Giesemann act.blue, Pacific Sun's Crystal Blue and Red Sea's 22k.
I am sure there are some differences, but to be honest, I could not tell them apart.

I've been waiting for Pacific Sun to return with their "BlueEx" bulb for quite some time now, but earlier today I finally received an email from them saying they have decided not to put it back into production as they sold too few of them last time.

I never saw this bulb myself, but based on the graphs and photos it looks awesome. See below compared to the "Crystal Blue" (Equivalent to ATI blue+)

I have a 6x24 fixture over my shallow lps build but I don't get much pop at all. I'm running 4x blue plus, 1x purple plus and 1x pure actinic. Any ideas on tube combo?

By more pop do you mean more actinic glow?

If so, remove a blue plus and add another actinic. Or, add a reefbrite strip with all 450nm blues.

I'm having a hard time getting my sps polyps pink. I just replaced a GE 6500, and GE 5000, to two Coral+. Do you think my new bulb line up below will get my sps colored up? Of course assuming all water chemistry is inline.

My new lineup.

Hi,looking for ideas on bulb placement on a 6x24 sunpower,I'll have 3 blue+,2 actinic,1 coral+.

I would put the two actinic's in the 2 bulb channel for dawn and dusk, place the coral plus in one of the middle positions and fill the rest in with blue+

Purchasing a 6 bulb ATI PM for a 40br. Coming from an AI 52hd. I'm ready to move back into T5's but it's been a while. I prefer the 20K look but also looking at bring some pop back into my reds, oranges and especially blues. My green's look great but lost a ton of color switching to LED's in my reds and blues. Help me out all mighty T5 gods. TIA.

Hard to say. Coloration of corals do not only depend on lighting. Your combination will do fine to start with.

Even more direct question, will I need a purple + to pull the pink colors out of my corals?

CoralNerd,

That should be fine.......you may want to try to raise the coral's placement or lower the fixture closer to the water to improve the pink colors.........more intense light can help.

I use only Coral+ and Blue+ and can pull all acro colors.

I'd pass on the P+

About to buy a sunpower 8x24w dimmable for a 70x70 30cm deep shallow. Really want the purple / deep blue look for as much pop as possible. All lps corals NO sps.. recommendations tube choice?

That case I would try one of two combos. First try

3 ati blue+
3 ati true actinic
2 ati purple+

If you don't love it

4 ati blue+
3 ati true actinic
1 ati purple+

The blue+\actinic combo is just lovely to look at. Fits your description perfectly. It is really the next best thing to royal blue LEDs alone. Maybe even better because the overall color is nicer

My current 6bulb configuration. Really want some more blue but I feel like I'm missing some color in my reds/blues. LED really wiped out a lot of color for me (IMO). I also want to keep my current dusk/dawn bulbs in the current order. What do you guys suggest?

front
B+
Actinic
ABS/C+ (been playing with two in this position not sure which one I like)

P+
