can you please tell me how u keep ur nutrients in check?
I suppose a late answer is better than no answer. To be honest, I'm not entirely sure. Since this is a softie reef, I tend not to be obsessed about water quality. Also the entire system is probably close to 250 gallons and the moment and tied into and active refugium upstairs.
I just added another light to the fuge...a cheap Walmart reflector and floodlight. The cheato finally looks like it might be growing. I've always been a proponent of natural filtration, and the lil cube fuge is like a mini bristle worm farm for me.
You know I say that I honestly don't know fairly tongue in cheek because my MSX Cone Skimmer has been offline for probably 3 months. The plastic housing on the pump impeller shattered. I delayed about contacting Marine Solutions Inc., but when I finally did I couldn't get a hold of them for 10 days. When I finally did they agreed to cover it under warranty no prob. I still haven't gotten around to boxing the damn'd thing up(the pump) to ship back. Yes- this week definitely.
So the tank has been skimmerless for prob 3 months- it looks great....in many ways growth is better...go figure. I do the occasional water change, but I've always been bad with routines...I mean...It's REAL occasional.
For some reason I can't keep snails in my tank. I'm wondering if it has something to do with the fact bristle worms spawn so happily in my tank. I had just read somewhere that they can predate snails if they become large enough. I'm thinking of trying mexican turbos...the big ones. I've shyed away from them for so long because they're natural bulldozers, but what they hay!
I do clean the acrylic a bit more frequently now that the skimmer has been out of service, but other than that...zero ill effects.
