The wavebox videos link!

You would still need powerheads and the frequency is adjustable but each tank has one frequency, it's natural resonance frequency, you are tuning the frequency until you reach this and that is when the waves happen, before and after you get no wave.

Ah I see, so you really need a longer tank to get the wave action to slow down a little. In the first few videos in the links above, it just seems too fast to me.

Once a Wavebox is installed, do you have to lower the water level in the tank so the wave does not cause water to splash out? My water level is about 2" below the lip of the tank.

You should be fine, I don't know how big your tank is but a 180 gets only about 1.5" wave.

Roger,
How many GPH will the wavebox move in an AGA 180 with the dual corner overflows?
Thanks,
Daniel

Roughly 12000 gph assuming a 1" wave and a frequency of .86 seconds which i can only guestimate from tables I have.

It is calculated by taking the L * W * H (of the wave) in inches, divide by 231 to get the volume in gallons and dividing by 2 gets you the actual volume of the wave since it is half crest, half trough. You take the wave volume and multiply it by the frequency and then by 3600 for the number of seconds in an hour.

On a tank that is 72L 36W 24T (270 gallon) how much water is the wave box going to move?

The tank is again acrylic with non eurobracing. It is actually braced well on the top so even though I was worried at frst I think the tank can withstand the pressure from the wave.

I have a total of 3 6080's and 2 6100's as well a an Iwaki 100RLT and four penductors so I am trying calcualte the flow in this tank internally.

It should be fine, you need to set it up, measure the wave and frequency and use the above formula.

Does the wavebox work well w/ AGA Megaflows? I have a 210 in the living room and am concerned about "sploshing" sounds...

That wavebox seems to put out TOO MUCH current. Maybe it is just me, but that almost looks like it would tire the fish! how the hell do they sleep! :)

rvitko,
Do you have any info for me? Have you seen any prob's with the wavebox and the AGA overflows??? Should I be worried about the sound?

It definitely isn't going to be silent, when you move that volume of water their will be splashing and some noise as water pours into the overflows and the box itself makes some noise. It can be minimized by using Durso pipes but not eliminated.

600gal (96x48x30)

600gal (96x48x30)

I have a 600gal (96x48x30) on order and I was thinking about getting 2 waveboxes, I was wondering if I would be able to place these on the back wall (96") and have the waves going front to back along the 48" width... The reason I ask is because this tank is going to be viewable from 3 sides and I would not like to mount them on the side(s)...

I don't think it will work.

It will not work because I want to have them on the back wall... I would need to place both boxes on one of the sides ??

Roger, why wouldn't it? Albeit the wave will be front/back, but with an extension shouldn't it work?
