I have a 600gal (96x48x30) on order and I was thinking about getting 2 waveboxes, I was wondering if I would be able to place these on the back wall (96") and have the waves going front to back along the 48" width... The reason I ask is because this tank is going to be viewable from 3 sides and I would not like to mount them on the side(s)...

Roger, if I were to place the wavebox and extention on one of the 48" sides pushing the water along the 96" would that work ??

Roger,

I'm really interested in getting a Tunze wavemaker for my tank. I currently have a Oceanic 72 bowfront reef ready tank with three 1200 Maxi-jet powerheads on a Digital Aquatics reef keeper. I also have a 3 inch sand bed.

The powerheads have already carved out the sand in the front of the tank but it has settled. Because the reef keeper has wave maker capability I only have 2 pumps turned on at a time rotating between the three.

I have a Mag 7 driving my return water back up to the tank at about 480 GPH.

My question is will the Tunze wavemaker, work on the dimensions of the bowfront, and in my case a 72 gallon. All the videos from this thread show rectangular tanks without curves, that make up bowfront tanks. Is this overkill in water movement? Do you recommend the tunze stream instead? If so, what size?

Thanks,

Mike

The Streams would make the sand motion problems worse, this may be an option when the sand bed has settled a bit and has some biofilm growth to cement it down. I have not tried a wavebox on a bowfront or seen anyone use one so I cannot endorse it.

rvitko how much cheaper is tunze in Germany? Here I go again How low will my water level have to be to keep a wavebox on my 100gal. How much is a wavebox? sorry for dumb questions but.....

The price is identical in Germany, some discount stores may be 10% less but that wouldn't offset shipping or VAT, I think they actually are more because Germany has a 17% VAT and frankly I am never willing to do the paperwork to retrieve my VAT so I always make a gift to Germany when I am their. The wavebox is about $500 and it would require a 1.5" space from the top of the tank.

No, it turns off and on in fraction of a second intervals and can be linked to a multicontroller to turn off certain times of the day,

5-10 years. That doesn't mean their won't be repairs needed and parts that wear out every year or two but with good care it should last a long time.

Hey Roger you'll like this. My new setup. Look in the left hand side.

Nice set up!. That is some nice glass and woodwork. I saw a tank this weekend that the stand was covered in sheets of red Onyx. Some of these custom stands can be pretty awesome. I once saw a 175 bowfront with a birdseye maple stand but it was 10K.

Actually 1" acrylic....

Oak panels on a steel frame....wasn't that bad actually cost wise.

Hey, you guys need to have a way to mount a stream on a seaswirl type thing. I saw a device from Europe, but it was like 350 euros which is ridiculous IMO. But that'd be SWEET.

Yes, they are very expensive but I have seen that unit and the machining and engineering was impecable and I think it was worth it. We won't make such a device due to liability. Over time especially under intense lighting or exposure to ozone the cord could break.

Roger, on a tank 96l by 30hi by 48 wide...what size waves would you expect. Also would you run one or two units and is there a chance the running two would create a harmonic leading to a large wave crest?
