I'm not saying you're wrong or that I don't believe you, Toddrtrex. I'm just a bit confused, that's all. You don't need to show me proof that you know what you're doing. The proof is beautiful, though!

wow those "facts" are awesome lol

They claim to be an expert? Man im glad I didnt stumble onto that site when I first started... Id be ina different hobby by now if i had tried those standards.

I didn't think that you were saying that. :)

If you have any questions, feel free to ask. Not saying that I know it all, but I have been in this hobby since '92, and have been successfully keeping clowns/anemones for the last 13 years.

Well, my friends who tell me opposite things have been in the hobby for a long time, too, so I'll just be taking it all with a grain of salt. All of the sources I've been presented with have beautiful, healthy fish and corals to show for it, so I guess I'll just find out what works for me when I finally have my own SW setup.

Should take any advice that you get with a grain of salt. However, the "facts" that I posted from that site are wrong. It isn't just my opinion, which I would have stated, they are just wrong.

"It grows to about 3 inches and will get along with others of it's own kind." they said that in the percula complex thread and it seems like there implying you can keep multiple clowns together if there the same species? ha wouldn't they kill each other off.

How do you think clowns breed? They pair off. In captivity, these bonds last years. Also, see the thread on this forum about 27 clowns for 27 months. Siblings raised together apparently get along just fine.

I know very well how clowns breed. But, I am not sure how that is relevant to the "fact" I posted from the site being wrong.

but the 27 clowns for 27 months was a fluke. it doesn't happen often. most of the time a pair will form and kill the rest off. i obviously know they pair off. -_-

Yes and she has MANY anemone's. I wouldn't say she's out of the woods yet either. I don't think she's had eggs yet from any has she?

WOW! :eek2: :eek1: I can't believe that a site would be publishing such incredibly false information. There's no way you could post info like that on RC without someone correcting you.
.

As far as the 27 clowns in the same tank, that is a very unique situation. It is far from the norm. That's why it was made a sticky. Mobart has put alot of time and effort into providing just the right conditions where her clowns could coexist. Her system should not be viewed as evidence that you can simply dump a bunch of clowns of the same species in the same tank and all will be well.

Of course that's an exceptional situation. All of those clowns are from the same spawn and have spent their whole lives together. However, it's an example of clowns getting along. And it's not at all exceptional for clowns to get along with each other under unexceptional conditions, such as with mated pairs.

Having a single pair -- bonded and/or mated -- is mostly likely what the vast majority of the people here have. So, I am a bit confused by the last part of your post.

Its like spitting on a fish... dont feed the little green trolls

I think you have a great point. At first it seemed like I was going to be able to help. Now I feel like I am banging my head against a wall.

"Hobby Experience: Seriously, under one year. I'm currently all FW, with plans to get clownfish when I graduate from college and have my own place."

"Hobby Experience: Since 1992, Reef Tanks
Current Tanks: 75g reef, 58g reef and the 29 gal yet again."

Seriously? You are arguing with him?

We should "test" their site. Ask a really weird question that is hard to answer or nobody has ever know the answer to and see what they say... I'll try that!

This was my question: I'm really hoping they will lay eggs that will hatch so I can raise the fry and sell them. I'd probably keep a few (maybe three?) though to keep with the parents.

This was their answer: I don't think that usually works. :( Clownfish do best singly or in pairs. I've never had personal experience with this, mind you, but most people who try this tell about sad endings. I don't think that the parents would like their kids sticking around, not even paying rent!

Siblings are a different story. http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthrea ... id=1259398

Is this true? The person who gave me this answer I think was a mod? IDK, but I don't think the answer is correct.
