Having a single pair -- bonded and/or mated -- is mostly likely what the vast majority of the people here have. So, I am a bit confused by the last part of your post.
Why? If you need it in small words, I'm saying that it's not true that perculas will always fight if you put them in the same tank. Yes, the 27-clown tank was unusual. Keeping clowns in pairs is not.

"Hobby Experience: Seriously, under one year. I'm currently all FW, with plans to get clownfish when I graduate from college and have my own place."

"Hobby Experience: Since 1992, Reef Tanks
Current Tanks: 75g reef, 58g reef and the 29 gal yet again."

Seriously? You are arguing with him?

Seriously. It doesn't take an idiot to look things up and cross-check. It also doesn't take an idiot to say, "Gee, all these people I know keep their SW tanks at [insert number between 1.020 and 1.025]. They have healthy fish. Seems like salinities lower than 1.0264 work just fine."

Clowns live in groups in the wild. You can keep them in groups in captivity too. Clowns don't just form a pair bond, lay eggs, wander off and never see their fry again. Their fry stay with them until their death. As I said clowns live in groups - there is one female at the top and one male which breeds with her. The rest remain juveniles until the male or female dies. If the female dies, the male will take her place and a juvenile will take his place. If the male dies, then a juvenile will take her place. It is not unusual at all to see clownfish live in numbers such as 27... or even 28! ;)

Your source?

Here are mine:

"Clownfish usually live in pairs or small groups made up of a dominant female, a subordinate male and several neuter fish."

"The clown anemonefish Amphiprion percula lives in groups composed of a breeding pair and zero to four nonbreeders."

And, oh, look!

I have 6, 75 gallon tanks with no less than 200 adult Onyx perculas each. They get along.....However I have been doing it for a while.27 ant nothing. I keep my grow out at 1.011.I keep my brood stock at 1.020.I keep my rotifers at 1.015.I keep my nems at 1.025.Stop bickering and share ideas. That is why we are here......And that is one terrible site.

I love the fish in your avatar! The one with more black is beautiful! Did you breed them yourself? If so, you're amazing! I love all the swirls!

THANK YOU! Finally, someone who realizes that SW starts lower than 1.0264!

Your 75s must be amazing. :)

I'm normally more of the peacekeeper on my other forums. However, I really take offense when I spend, oh, nearly 100 total hours now doing research, cross-checking my facts, and asking questions, and then having people tell me I'm stupid. :(

Ya' know what guys? We are wrong! The Clownfish Forums is a great site! Just look at this encouraging, kind, thoughtful reply I got from one of their users!

"For anyone reading this, this guy is a crank who's out to prove that we're idiots.

http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthrea ... genumber=1"

I wasn't out to prove that people on "The Clownfish Forums" are idiots. Nobody needs to prove that! I was out to find a site that will help me with my questions. Luckily, I found Reef Central!

We should "test" their site. Ask a really weird question that is hard to answer or nobody has ever know the answer to and see what they say... I'll try that!
Look at *this* kind, encouraging, thoughtful post, right here! Your question was answered politely, so why are you complaining? You're the one who was trying to trick me.

I made that post on TCFF days before I made the one you quoted. I had a question hoping it would be answered by an expert. Not a novice who has never kept clowns before. But OK! Think what you want... At least *I* know *I'm* right and that's all that matters. Anyways, does anybody *other* than *you* actually post on TCFF... *ever*? OH! It's just so fun putting *'s around words you wish to emphasize!

Then... why, exactly, were you trying to trick us? If you were really searching for a site with valid info, why did you post somewhere where you think that people are obviously idiots?

So "LilGreenPuffer" who exactly were you calling a "crank" ?

You know what, don't even bother answering, I have had enough of this thread.

On occasion, they do. It's slowed down lately. There used to be a lot more posts. If an expert doesn't answer, I will, and if I'm not 100% sure of the answer, I say so.

And, really, do you have to criticize my asterisks? Not a great use of your time.

Come to think of it, not a great use of my time, either. 'Bye.

I can't even understand that question because it is to confusing. Too much false info was included about what you claim I was going to do so it is hard for me to understand. Please simplify that... or no... wait... just don't. I don't want to continue this fight with somebody who wants to act like a pro. You don't know anything about clowns until you own them! I'm no expert, but I'm definitely up there at a high level on knowledge. If you want to prove you are correct and such an expert so badly, then go back to TCFF and prove it to all your fellow "experts." I'm done talking to you.

Are we done here?

Sorry I got here so late. RC doesn't encourage the discussion of other BB sites - whether positive or negative. You wouldn't go into your local LFS and hand out flyers for the LFS across town, would you? Please show us the same courtesy.
