Here is the latest thing to test me. I purchased a Magnificent FoxFace around a month ago. He goes thru the QT process just fine, which involves tank transfer and 2 PraziPro treatments. I goto introduce him to my tank by using a social acclimation box. He is in there for 3 days, I observe very little aggression from the existing fish. The Blue Hippo went up and flared at him the first day, but that was it. My pair of Blue Throat triggers didn't have a care in the world about the newcomer. I never saw my Yellow Tang go upto the FoxFace at all. So yesterday I release the FoxFace from the box. Almost right away the Yellow Tang is going after him, tail wiping him and giving hell. That lasts for a bit then stops, the rest of the evening was pretty peaceful. But today the Yellow Tang is trying to kill the FoxFace, mind you, the FoxFace is pretty decent size, 5-6 inches. I notice a couple wounds from the Tangs scalpel, that's is, capture the Yellow Tang and put her in time out

So now the tang is in the acclimation box. Not sure what the next step is? Dunno do I leave the YT in there for let's say a week will there be any difference? Any ideas?

I would rearrange the rockwork to help out. Glad you didn't have to tear you tank apart too much to catch it. When I add fishes, I see aggression for 1-3 days before it subsided and then random aggression here and there. So it could be the tang is showing aggression for a day or two before letting off...or it could be forever as long as the foxface is in there - individual fish = individual temperment.. Good luck.

Tape a small mirror on the end of the tank. This will keep the yellow tang busy seeing it's own reflection. He's attacking the fox face because his color, and shape kind of resembles another yellow tang..

I had a similar problem and put the trouble maker in my QT for two weeks. That did the trick . The newbie was settled and the aggression was minimal. Course a yellow tang is more aggressive than the fish I was dealing with.

I was thinking of taking this approach as well. It might be the best plan as I also have a Blonde Naso going thru QT right now. One last transfer then 2 weeks of Prazi. I could fire up another tank and put the yellow in, introduce the Naso to the tank via acclimation box, then release the YT back in after the Naso has settled in. I did try this with a clownfish that went rogue and tried to kill my Flame Wrasse. Unfortunately this did not work as the clown went right back to it after being reintroduced to the tank.

Put the YT in your QT for a couple of weeks. He's claimed the tank as his and a time-out will make him the newcomer.

Hate to say this, but. I had problems with a sail fin and a y/tang. At sep times. The yellow tang was as mean as a stick. After a move I lost the y/tang,oh well. Anywho, I got tired of seeing the stabbing going on. I removed the fish, get ready, with a small pair of bone cutters, clipped the barbs. No more problems. It took a while for the fish to realize that it didn't have them, then things calmed right down. The sail fin is now about 6yrs old, and healthy as a horse. JME

I have heard of that before, I think it was common practice for reefers in Japan or somewhere around there.

Well, for better or worse I followed this plan:

The naso tang didn't make it thru QT, it never ate very well then just stopped eating and wasted away. I probably shouldn't have taken it from the LFS as it was there a couple of weeks but didn't really attack the food when they feed him in front of me. I felt like I should take it anyways as they ordered it in for me.

So I ordered in 6 anthias and a powder blue tang from LA. They went thru my QT regimen of tank transfer and PraziPro. I had the yellow tang that went gangsta on my magnificent FoxFace in her own 20 gallon long for around 6 weeks.

Tonight I put all 8 in at once. My thought was this should work best as there are 6 established fish ( hippo tang, 2 BT triggers, 2 large chromis, and the FoxFace). By introducing all 8 newcomers at once it should create chaos and spread out any uber aggression.

Well so far the plan is working. But I will tell you, the powder blue is gonna be the ruler of this 210 gallon tank! The PB is about 3.5 inches and right away she is letting everyone know not to mess with her. The PB even went after my Hippo tang which is 8 inches long with no fear. So far the YT has been passive as she is now a newcomer. The funny this is my 2 blue/green chromis that I have had for 6 years are finally able to boss around someone! They are busy moving the anthias around since there are finally some fish smaller then they are.

So far so good... Everyone has settled in, all are eating and there is very little aggression at this point. Just the usual "I am gonna dart at you to move you out of the way" kind of interactions. Funny thing is the day after I introduced the 8 new fish, my Blue Throat Triggers decided is was spawning/mating time and they went into their routine. So I guess they felt no stress with the introduction of the new fish.
