thomash's reef

Today is the first anniversary of my reef. I want to share with you some pictures.
This is my second tank. I had a 360 liter tank for over four years. After a move i decided to built a bigger one.

The objective was to create a SPS tank with an open, light aquascape with plenty of swimming space.
I almost did it. The corals are growing very fast. I haven't noticed how fast this open space disappeared.

Tank setup:
The tank is 170cm wide, 60cm high, 85cm deep. The total water volume is about 1000 liter (264g). The tank has an internal overflow with an integrated wavebox on the short side.
Skimmer: Royal Exclusiv Bubble King 250
Filtration: BioPellets reactor with a half liter of NP BioPellets
Supplementation: Balling light.
Light: Ati Powermodule 8x80W
Circulation: Two tunze 6155 and one Jebao WP-60 as a wavebox pump.
Live rock:
Initially, I bought about 60 kg of live rock. After three months of quarantine i started to experiment with the aquascaping. Finally, I used up about 40 kg of live rock in the display tank and sold the rest. Fortunately, water filtration provided by BioPellets is sufficient enough to keep over 25 fish, and feed them well.

I have been running my system with this configuration for about one year. So far, so good.

As almost every aquarist I had some issues. The biggest one was marine ich outbreak. I lost more than half of my fish.
The second issue was green slime algae. I had to use Marine Mycosidol because the bacteria were multiplying very quickly. Now the green slime is gone, but some of my acro have been recovering colors for over a month. Nevertheless, it was worth to do it.

My previous tank looked like this:

I moved all my corals from my first about year ago. I took this picture few days after the move:

Well done! Seems like acro's know that the space is available like small bushes in the garden. The acro's in the wild have to compete for space. Perhaps this is in the DNA even in tank raised speciemens. Really nicely scaped! Keep up the good work!
