Thoughts on hybrids

Just wondering what peoples thought on hybrids were really. I know ORA have had a few species commercially produced for a while now like the indigo dottyback but they seem to be bringing out more like the maroon x perc/occ.
I don't mind fish which may naturally hybidise, such as the acanthurus tangs which seemingly are ready available but i'm not sure i agree with mutants like this new clownfish. I don't want to see marines go down the hideously engineered freshwater path. So what are peoples thoughts?

If there's a demand and it's legal, it will be made. Even if it's illegal, it'll still be made. There's no stopping market forces.

That said, I think they're interesting and they're not genetically engineered like Glo fish so I'm intrigued by them.

I'm intrigued by them a little bit as well. I've kept the indigo dottyback and can see how breeding two fish that would probably naturally hybridise together is not a huge leap in terms of stretching the rules but i am personally against stretching that further like the new clownfish hybrid has. I'm not sure how they did it, whether it was by pairing them up or fertilising the eggs but they are two different imo (in terms of size and temprement), just look at the poor parrot cichlids (i know thats another giant leap again).

I feel sorry for the clownfish. I see it going the same way as the poor guppy or mollie. There is already an elongated variant (although i think its a one off for now) and has been selectively inbred to produce "extremely rare, looks like the paint has scraped off" morphs. I wonder if the big companies weren't behind them and if it was just a small breeder if these less than perfect individuals would have a value. Call me a cynic

Would love to know everyones opinion as locally freshwater hybrids are only valued by people who don't know they are hybrids. If you ask someone who keep cichlids and knows a bit about the subject they will tell you they have no value and question why you hadn't culled them.

I'm cool with hybrids. They offer new colors and designs and the likes. :) I know there's plenty of fish in the sea to choose from, but doesn't mean hybrids are uncool. :)) Plus hybrids are 'new' fish 'produced' rather than caught, so it doesn't affect wild populations of fish. And many 'new, cool' fish in the wild happens to be rare/endangered.

Plus, it's natural for hybrids to occur in the wild, just rare (well, we get wild-caught hybrids in from time to time, so can't be that rare).

So they're no different than any other fish to me. If they intrigue me, they intrigue me. If they don't, they don't.

[EDIT]

P.S. I am a cichlid lover. I love them to death. My first cichlid is a Super Green Texas, Herichthys carpintis var. Escondido, and I still have it with me even now. I truly love them to death.

I don't see any difference between hybrid cichlids and purebred cichlids.
