thoughts on kessil A150 Led...

Did you guys see this?

It's a side-by-side comparison between a Kessil A150w and a 250W MH. The Kessil is obviously not as bright as the MH but take a look. I wish someone make a side-by-side comparison next to a 150W MH.

It doesn't appear to be much dimmer, but that could also be because the Kessil is bluer.

when are the a350 coming out?

So far they say beginning of 2012.

Still no updates from others that have been running them for a while?

I have been getting decent growth on the SPS in a BioCube 29. The color was improving as well, up to the point that i forgot to check my RO of silicates and PO4. I got the cartridges changed and gotta do quiet a few H2O changes, but the color should bounce back.

So I am thinking of adding some of these to my tank. I have a 125 with two 250W radium 20k's and supplemental 440w of VHO's 454,actinics,10k. I am looking to swap out all of my lighting. I like the blue look of the radiums.

Should I go with 15k kessils, or go with the 10k's?

Should I go with 4-6 A150's?

When the A350's come out, would 3 be adequate?

SPS dominated, brain corals and clams at the sand bed.

I understand based simply upon a K rating I should go with the A150's but the radiums are not as blue as their K rating belies. They are more of an ice/white blue.

Suggestions please?

they claim 24 inch coverage.i have seen the 15ks and the look to blue for my taste.from what i have heard the 10ks are closer to 14k but i havent seen it in person.

one thing i can say is it is alot of money for something smaller than a soda can.a question i would have is why are they charging high 200s for the a150 but you can find the h150 for under 200.the best i can tell is the only change is the leds color.

Most likely because they sell thousands more of the h150 and the volume gives them better pricing on making the components. Also, I wouldn't consider $269 as high 200's, rather mid 200's.

Oh, and as my wife says all the time... size doesn't matter!:lol:

Just wanted to update everyone as I just saw this thread had been brought back to life! I have had the Kessil LED lights for about 3+months now. I have 2 of the 15k and one 10k. My 75g cube tank has 1 15k running (30x30) and I have 1 15k supplemented with some 10k 1w LED's on a 60g corner and my 10k I have over my biocube.... Everything I had was doing great until about a month ago my my SPS started dying off LPS wasnt looking good... My biopellets I guess had stripped my tanks of too much so I just finished getting my tanks back in order after going back to carbon/gfo and just dosing carbon. I would definately agree I like to 10k look but some coral just pops more with the 15k so I guess I would consider what you have in your tank. My aussie acans and acro's look much better under my 15k. I had the 10k and 15k over the cube tank both at one point but decided to renovate my biocube :) I am happy I did as the 10k standalone make a nano look amazing!

What size is the biocube? Can you post pics? Leaning towards one of these, but need more pics over similiar sized cubes.

I just hook up 2 of the 10k's on my 40 breeder. Very nice attractive light. Color is not 10k but to my eye a 12k. Perfect IMO.I Shimmer is nice, you just have to see it in person. Kessil is one to watch in the future IMO.

sorry.i live in cali so after taxes mid to upper 200s.at any rate i am curious as to long term use on these lights.plus i have 24 inch deep tank and most stuff im finding is on shallow tanks.that includes the ones i saw at my local store.the only people i am finding saying that they will work just as well are the people trying to sell them to me.or a few deeper tanks i have seen onlie but they have twice as many as what the lights claim you need.if i need six lights instead of three then i wonder if im better off going with another led light system.

As far as the A150W goes the bottom line is they are really for small tanks. anything under 100gallons I would say one for every 30 gallons. If you have a moderate sizes tank or larger you would be better off waiting for the A350 which is around the corner. It should be well worth the wait.

Here are some pictures of the A150 over my 20 gallon long.

Awesome thanks for the pic, pretty much convinced this is the light im going to go with at this point, I see some shadows and shade on the edges, but pretty sure the cube isnt as wide.

I just received the 10K A150 in the mail two days ago. I'm impressed with the light and I love the fact that there isn't any color shadowing in the shimmer. I do agree that they are best for shallower tanks though and you will get some shadows because it is a spotlight. If your aquascape is planned well this won't make a huge difference. I'll get some pics posted once I get it hung above my new build (ADA 60-F nano/frag tank).

Hi guys.
I have 3 of them on my 180. The coverage is very good, not sure on the PAR though. Here are few pictures, excuse the cloudy water, I'm mid cycle.

Thanks for the pictures. What's the dimension of your tank? I'm upgrading to a 120gallons (4x2x2) and was wondering if 2 will be enough. I'm planning on mostly LPS and softies but a few SPS up high.
