~~ Thread of the Month ~~ Ghetto Tanks!

I used to be affraid of heating up the water because my fixture was sitting on the tank rim.

I got four shot glasses and propped it up .......
most shot glasses are a uniform size and shape so it worked great.

some of this stuff looks down right dangerous!!!

This was the temporary setup while constructing my new tank. The choice of reflector was a bad one, as paint started to fall off.

this thread is funny. its been going for a while, but not too many pages. i dont have any pictures but my 10 has just two pieces of glass like a splashguard with my PC's on it instead of a hood, a tetra whisper filter without the top on, instead a piece of CD case with a lamp over it growing some cool macro, two pieces of contruction paper on the back for better viewing, sitting on a part of my desk with just one little piece of wood standing on a little wood pole. its funny, because that whole tank cost me under $100, but i am setting up a 90 with $700 plus in it already. top of the line aqua c ev-180 skimmer, kalkrip auto topoff, 412 watts of hamilton lighting, nice sump, nice stand, 3000+ gph of magdrives. i stillo have to buy 200 watts of lighting, 165 watts of bulbs, one more pump, and the live rock! thats hundreds of dollars more.

nice ghetto tanks. mines in public display, not the dungeon.

haha sorry about that. my computer was being slow and i accidentally clicked it a few times too many. it wouldnt let me delete them either. well, at least i owned page 22. that was a long post anyways

WOW, i dont know what to say this thread has my jaw on the floor, I cannot belive some of the dangerous stuff some of you people are running, and with success.. CONGRATS..... I feel inspired to get the creative ideas out to start saving some $$$. Good job people.

we should ad to this the most expensive part of a setup ghetto-fied, I.e. skimmer, lighting whatever...

Wow....I'm really afraid for a lot of you guys that posted your stuff here.

Well I guess i better post my ghettofied propogation system.

Here's the stand we built for the sump and fuge.
<img src="http://reefcentral.com/gallery/data/500/38365astandconstruction048.JPG">

And of course the old-skool skimmer compressor on my EAP
<img src="http://reefcentral.com/gallery/data/500/38365skimnewtop001.JPG">

And the entire ghetto setup. Notice the plumbing on the fuge. Scares the heck outta me. But im too lazy to plumb it:)...Oh..dont even ask about the lighting sitting on top of the main tank. There's nothign wrong with sitting a dual 250 magnetic ballast on top of a wooden box containg a 250w metal halide. And vho's are perfectly safe to sit on top of a tank an inch away from your halides even when you have the tank open...:)

Oh and the self-rotating returns that ended up being like 5" long when actually set up. And the egg crate 1/4 pyramid....i could go on...but i think ive embarassed myself enough :lmao:

OMFG...This is the funnest thread I have EVER seen on RC!!

I never knew there were so many single reefers...or maybe reefers with blind wifes?:lmao:

I say Frick-n-Frags has got to be the winner!

I've got to say I'm thrilled by the lack of people preaching about safety, too. Good to see some people still know how to have fun! :D

gatohoser, your acrylic fuge should have a sheet of plywood under neath of it. acrylic needs to have the whole bottom supported or the too much stress is put on the joints and it will pop.

All those that didnt say anything about the safety, we all know what happened to them...
