I think I have seen that pic before. That is just and accident, looking for a place to happen.

:D Glad you are in awe of that science project.

It is actually bulletproof as I have had all my accidents already including a tank breaking, overflow clogging, endcap fire, sump overflow and countless spills. I really appreciate the tile floor and central floor drain.

Some day I might set up a display tank, but probably not. Seems like too much BS to go through to have to be careful with water changes and deal with hoods and major construction/replacement if I want to change anything.

ps, I now have a salt bucket to collect skimmate instead of that 1 gallon jug out on the floor.

nice ghetto tanks. mines in public display, not the dungeon.

Actually you should get more ghetto cred for that :D

Mine is definitely in the dungeon (well if you can call a room with comfy chairs, a full wet bar, beer fridge and speakers wired into the ceiling a dungeon.)

But for sure if someone isn't specifically interested in seeing corals, they never see it at all.

I never thought of mine as too bad, but I was really proud of the plywood light housing for the 250 watt MH. I had a standard AGA canapy but I had to reverse the hinges on that bad boy so it would open up from the back toward the front and I had to re-structure it so that it would actually hold itself up after cutting the middle out for this plywood light setup.

and now with it closed it actually looks a lot less ghetto (too bad I was too lazy to stain it)

Here's my getto tank.. Time permitting, it won't atay this way too long, as I am building covering for the metal fram and now that I have decided on a light combo, a real canopy

Alright...I'll share mine...it's been improved on since these pics, but it's nice to see where my tanks came from :)

Overview during my zoa crash...the towel keeps the police away because of suspicious lights (44W 10K) glowing form my living room windows

A close up of my DIY hood...the foil really works to keep the light directed back into the tank

The heart of the circulation system before the big change

Of course there's the off brand skimmer just to get me started before I can invest in the good stuff..oh, and the custom baffle system was being cleaned at that time...it's made of a plastic trashcan :)

And for the DIYer in all of us...the float switch to control my top-off

last but not least...my refugium with a flood light from HD

well...hope that inspired some minds and I'm proud to say that I'm finally starting to piece together everything and changing out the different ghetto parts to streamline the look and function.

Call me crazy, but why are we concerned about police snooping around? ;)

"Honest officer, that metal halide setup is just for my aquarium. No sir, that isn't a bong, it's a modified Seaclone skimmer." :smokin:

Haha that's about right...had some pranksters that broke into my fuse box and switched off all the power last year and since I was working, my wife called the PD and after they found the fuse box and turned the power back on...according to the Mrs., they were not about to come too close to the house after seeing super bright lights coming from the living room window.

"they were not about to come too close to the house after seeing super bright lights coming from the living room window."

Why? That sounds slightly silly...one doesn't use lights to make meth...maybe grow weed...but weed isn't going to blow up your house.
