~~ Thread of the Month ~~ Ghetto Tanks!

Cant compete with the great ones but it was pretty ghetto

And yes that little stand the refugium is on was supported by drywall only.

Basically you run a thick wire from your stand to the wall. If you use a stud in the wall, it will prevent the tank from falling forward. Put one eyehook on either end of your stand, then attach some wire to it, then attach an eyehook to the stud, and it will hold. Make sure that you use an eyehook that is long enough so is doesnt rip out of the stand or wall if the stand desides to move. Oh, and make sure that you have the wire tight, stops momentum from building up.

I think we're talking about two things here--

Drywall anchors, or "mollies", are little plastic jackets that you fit around the screw when you screw anything into sheetrock to give the screw something to bite into. I still wouldn't hang a tank with just those though--I hope hokiefish
has those brackets screwed into some studs.

wonrib00 is talking about anchoring your tank to the wall so it doesn't tip forward when tugged. This is the ghetto hookup I did so my son wouldn't pull the tank down:

No tank should be held in place with drywall anchors alone. Especially over that powercord I had. Since changed but man it was ghetto

What a great thread! Here's my sump area, two rubbermaid containers plumbed together. Hopefully it will qualify as ghetto.

You guys have inspired me to bulid a sump rather then spend a money i don't have on a already bulit one, and that overflow box I saw, i think i will make me one but not using filter box though. Another thing i vote Frick for ghetto master.

that's not ghetto that's just a good DIY job . However if you cut a hole in the tub then patch it with duck tape then you are on the way :)

Got to love those rubbermaid containers I am picking up a 300 gallon rubbermaid stock tank this week for my sump.:D

Hk

I don't recall which was on there at the time but have both FA and SA as well as the parts to convert either to the A6 rifle. If you have any other questions shoot me a PM.
