Threadfin cardinals: OK as just a pair?

I've recently seen tank-raised threadfins offered online as pairs. I know they're a schooling species in nature, and on top of that they're shy, skittish little fish (I used to keep a school of them in my old 75). Would it probably be too stressful for them to be in a small (34G Solana), brightly lit (150W MH) tank with only each other for company?

Also, what is your experience as far as their hardiness? Most of the school I used to have was from ORA, with the exception of one big female. They did fine for the most part, but a couple did mysteriously disappear (they didn't have any other tankmates and as far as I know there weren't any evil fish-eating hitchhikers in my live rock).

I keep 4 in a 45 brightly lit tank with no issues. It's like having 1 fish due to their schooling behavior. I think they would be fine in a 34G. As for hardiness, they are pretty hardy if you get healthy specimens to begin with.

Are they bad to jump out of an open-top tank? I know any fish is capable of going airborne, but I wasn't sure if these little guys especially tend to. Thanks!

Unless they're being chased there's little chance they would jump out. Mine seem upset if they have to swim at all.
