Through the Looking Glass

Couldn't have said it better myself =).. I always check in on this thread for pics and am amazed at your collection that you share. You have some seriously good taste when it comes to your coral/fish selection and great skills on showing us what they look like.. That micromussa is Def a keeper..

thank you, I enjoy sharing and taking pictures

Your Oregon tort looks like it's about to take off on you.

Getting ready to frag some of the longer branches and hopefully will induce more growth. Always hesitant to frag a growing colony because I enjoy observing the growth. It just seems that when Oregon Tort is trimmed that it responds with lots of new growth.

Did you get the neptune feeder yet? Just wondering what you think of it so far?

It is still in the box but contemplating setting it up today. Wedding shower for a friends daughter is taking place in our home today, so my timing may be off for hanging out with the tank.

I keep taking picture after picture of rr pink Floyd. It is so mesmerizing with the yellow body and the red polyps. Mine is encrusting like crazy and sending out mini branches. A good friend has a colony which is much paler yellow and less encrusting and a little bit better branching. Interesting to see the same coral adapting and growing a little different depending on tank parameters and flow.

thank you very much. Always feel a little awkward sharing what i know, because I don't really know if what I know is worthy of sharing and if it is right or wrong. Its just something I have done mostly by trial and error and most certainly by reading lots of how to threads. Plus although I have a lot of information, don't know which part of it is misinformation. There is a lot of science to reefing, but also a lot of conjecture. And unfortunately, its easy to acquire goofy info and then repeat it as fact. Probably should have just said thank you.
Lol glad you didn't just say thank you ;)
Love the pink floyd, indeed the contrast between the red and yellow is amazing!
Can't wait to see it bigger!

I actually do this to my corals all the time and I see new growth from the areas I cut every time I do it.

Just curious if your refugium is in your sump, or is it a separate tank? Are you doing weekly water changes, or monthly?

I'm not sure of the exact size, but I think my refugium is about 20 gallons full of Chaeto and my sump which is separate is about 30 gallons. Both are under my tank in the stand. I had a water issues a ways back because I have been buying water from LFS for years. I started making my own water about 4 weeks ago ,I think. I change 5 gallons daily now. I only have to turn the ATO off to accomplish the water change because the pump is unaffected with a five gallon deficit during the water change. I previously did 10 gallon water changes weekly. For the time being, the daily five gallon water change only takes a few minutes and it lets me check on the tank. I enjoy checking on the tank daily anyway. I anticipate that the daily water changes may lessen in time.

Water changes seem easy, do you have a valve off your return or something to do this. I just finished my plumbing and put a water change valve in, so I will see how that goes.

I don't have anything special set up for water changes in the tank plumbing. I simply siphon 5 gallons from the top of the tank ( with the ATO tuned off) and pour 5 gallons of fresh saltwater into the sump, ATO back on and done

This is a darth maul porites.

Porites is a strange species and I have no idea what characteristics are characteristic. I have only seen three that I could recognize, the darth maul, the plain jane yellow one ( that is not really its name) and a very expensive multicolored one and I'm not sure if that is or is not a porite.

I have googled porites but sometimes the information on google is so much that it's like no information really at all. Also have looked at Corals of the World which is a great source but I think I would do better with Corals for Dummies

So the next pic is not an sps, rather a close up of a common but nonetheless brightly colored blastomussa. I think the really cool thing is that it is growing and thriving literally adjacent to a chalice( RHS Del Sol--now,that's an oldie as well as rarity) and a lithophyllon ( try saying that three times really fast with your mouth full)

Nice love it. You have Jebeo pumps in your tank, what mode are you running yours on? Just wondering if you notice on your Jebeos that the plug gets pretty warm. I'm just trying my stuff out, and I'm noticing that the plugs on these pumps get pretty warm, while the rest of my plugs on other equipment are fine? First time using these pumps so I'm not sure

I used to run them on elsie but lately on full blast mode full time. The plug is warm but not hot. But with all the electrical gadgetry, the apex EB8 seems warm as well

This is a tyree agent orange acan and a super slow grower. It seems I have had these for a very long time and although growing, it does seem remarkably slow. It is not an sps, but fun to share some of the spice

Very nice tank.
You really need to keep trimming them. As many corals that you have, how do you keep them from going to war?

Awesome new pictures keep them coming.

Just curious what your sump consists of. Are you using filter socks, or filter floss at all?
