Tigahboy's 35g

Thanks!

Update: I switched my maxi minis to a silversides diet. My camera ran out of batteries as I was trying to take photos, so I was only able to take a couple shots after the blue maxi devoured half a silverside.

Got back from a trip to the bay area. I checked out the aquarium exhibits at the Academy of Science while I was up there. It wasn't as good as some others (tho a huge improvement from what I remembered when I was younger), but still had a good time. Here are some photos.

Also dropped by an LFS (Neptune Aquatics) in Milpitas and I bought a couple aquacultured clams for my tank. They are cute little guys.

So I come home for lunch since I spilled coffee all over my shirt to find that the clam on the left (the one that has always been more open since its arrival on Sunday) recessed with large chunks of the mantle missing towards the back. :(

I'm trying not to automatically blame my emerald crab, but I can't help it! In any event, sad to see such a nice clam go. R.I.P., little guy.

Sorry to hear about your clam..it’s always a bummer when those things happen. I’m not completely comfortable with having emeralds in my reef. I had one that I never witnessed doing damage but since he’s been taken out my Digi has yet to show “bite” marks like it did previously.

On a lighter not I love the way you setup is coming along! The new pieces are very nice! I am very jealous of your vacation pictures! They look awesome!

Keep up the good work

Thanks, Mr. Right. Yeah, I'm going to try to adhere to the legal maxim of "innocent until proven guilty", but I got my eyes on my crab now. like a hawk.

Well I found some info on this guy. It's a predatory flatworm and it eats clams! So glad I was able to catch it.

hey Tigahboy, just wanna say you got a very clean and nice Tank! Got a question for you, does the maxi mini anemones move alot often? Or you have been able to have it stay in one rock most of the time?

It’s funny how the trap was to catch one possible clam predator and ended up catching another lol!

I'd still keep an eye on the crab just to be safe.

Thanks! It really varies. I have a couple that have never moved and I have other that move frequently. I think once they find a spot they really like (whatever that is) they don't move as frequently. The 2 that haven't moved are attached to the base of rocks under the sand.

Your tank is out of control. Love it!

Where did you get the Maxi's?
Best place to get em are from reefers. :)

Indeed. I got real lucky. I may still try to catch the emerald just to be safe. I can toss him in my sump/fuge.

Well, it took me awhile to come to this decision, but I've decided to take down this tank...

I am getting married on 10-10-10 and will be moving at that time to a new city, and will likely move again 6 months to a year thereafter. I will also be very busy in the months immediately preceding my wedding and immediately after, so I won't have much time for my tank, and figure I should start gradually selling stuff off now while I have a little bit more free time.

I won't be gone for long tho. As soon as my soon-to-be wife and I settle down in a more permanent location, I will be setting up a new reef tank. A tank that will top this tank for sure. This tank was a great practice run for my future ultimate nano, and I do have concrete plans in mind. I'll stick to the same overall dimensions (30-35g), but I plan to improve upon this set-up vastly.

In any event, thanks for dropping by my thread this past year. It's been fun! Here are the last photos I will take of my tank. Enjoy!
